Hi guys engine getting a rebuild question is can i reuse my head h
gasket as the head was only built 3thousand miles ago or so with the mugen head gasket used. So I am wondering would this peice be ok to use again or should I get another one. If so what are the reccomendations for a new one??

Don't quote me on this but I always thought gaskets worked by being crushed/compressed i.e. one use only.

If it were me I'd buy a new one anyway just for piece of mind...

a BIG NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Buy a new one. Like DV8 said they get compressed/crushed. wouldnt risk a engine rebuild and use a 2nd hand head-gasket even if its done 10miles.
Buy a new one

i agree you'll be pullin the head off and changing it pretty fast if you re use the gasket its not worth it just get a new one

I have seen head gaskets used more than once when the heads been off and everything has been perfectly fine. These sort of jobs done on cheap cars/engines that arent worth spending the money on.

However i would advise you buy a new one for peace of mind and of course to do it the right way.

New gasket. Can you imagine how much of a pain it will be if your reuse the old one and find out there is a problem when it's all back together and having to strip it all down again! Do it once do it right:nice:

I've seen it done, but I've never done it and will never do it. For the £50 or so they are you might as well just get one form Honda.

A mate of mine re-used a head gasket, and made it single layer (to get the desired compression ratio) by removing the brass rivets and stripping away the outer two layers, then running a Jackson Racing supercharger through the engine.

I was expecting it to let go at any second, but even at 12psi with the larger (or smaller?) pulley it was fine.

There is no way in HELL I would ever do something like that on any of my engines, but he's the type who likes to try all sorts of zany experiments.

Should I type a disclaimer?
