pocket rockets where called the CRX`s back in the early 90`s late 80`s.... I wouldn`t call a gti pocket rocket...
 
Well thats what most Gti owners call them here, just going with the majority! They are pretty nippy for such a small car to be fair.
 
laura_ek9, the point behind an ek9 isn't the figures of hp, but how it puts it down in the corners. In japan they race stock ek9's against rx7's, silvias, mr2's...you know the lot and the little 1.6ltr engine still manages to beat the **** out of the other big power cars. and what's more, you can spend its lifetime mileage at 9000 rpm and still it wont breakdown.

Having said that guys, I'm in a bit of a dilemma here. A couple of weeks ago I was about to buy en eg6 but the bastard of an owner raised the price after I gave him my deposit so I just basically told him to give me my money back and go f*ck himself.....anyway I really want a honda, I really do. its been my dream for ever....and now I met a guy that has a peugeot 106 gti and when I say its probably the mintest gti I have ever seen I really mean it. and its not expensive either so I really dont want to lose the opportunity at this, but at the same time its not the car I would like exactly. the problem where I live in Malta honda are pretty expensive cars.....what do I do?
 
Ive just bought a Civic Jordan and That doesnt feel near as quick as my VTS. But its a Much better car all round
 
I dont know how anyone can compare a 106 Gti/Saxo VTS to an ek9 especially an b18c one! There is no comparison. As a few people said its not all about the power but the handling is unbelievable! But the combo of a B18c-R in an ek9 then you have something special!
 
I changed from my yellow 106gti to a Jordan then to an EK9. In standard form the 106gti was slightly quicker than the Jordan. I tuned my 106 quite a bit and it was running 14.5 quarters before i sold it. Still cant decide if the
EK9 is quicker than my 106. But a standard 106 is defo slower than a standard EK9 no doubt....

Lovely Gti, i also own a yellow one, which is pretty much standard engine wise, so looking forward to feeling the power of the Honda!

I had a saxo vtr with 152bhp she was a quick one:p! Theres not the much between the ek9 and the saxo the 9 is quicker but you have 2 rev the f*** out of it 2 go! Handling wise theres not that much between them the 9 easier 2 control when you pushed it 2 far! You wont be disappointed Ek9 it an awesome car:nice: i prefer it 2 my old scoobe sti

i cant really comment i went from a 1.2 corsa to an EK9 so obiously it was quicker
 
u will def notice the difference and the 9 certainly will hold its own against alot of cars ;) including the new type rs.

the 106 gti is hell of a good little car though.
 
The EK9 is alot quicker then a pug 106 lol...... Not even a slight comparison. 106 has somewhat of 120HP and weighs around 940KG(ish)

Bit of a difference then a 185BHP EK9.... And im sure ive read they only weigh 1050KG(correct me if im wrong).

Some people do think these little saxos and pugs are rockets lol. Definitely not slow though, nice little motors :)

I think you would be surprised , a standard 106gti runs a quarter mile in around 15.2 (thats what mines and g/f's old one both did standard) and i think the EK9 runs it in around 15.0 flat, so it is quicker but not a huge difference.

Top end i think the EK9 would be a good bit faster tho.
Also the EK9 is a much better car, so much better build quality.

I was torn between a 106gti and a EK9 at the time, but had already been in and around pug's and for a while. Made the choice to change to Honda and have never, ever had a regret.

A friend of mine had a 106 supercharged and race spec'd 106, that was insane .... ran 11.2 at Crail and had it 160 + with a vtr gearbox ...... but the EK is unreal, even from stock. Spent about 15k on that 106 to get it in that nick :)

Wouldnt underestimate a GTi though .....

A friend of mine has a Jordan, with quite a high spec, and my EK9 is very noticeably faster. So its not the same comparison really ....

To be honest though i have never gone by quarter mile times as alot of times they havent made much sense(wont go into it to much) but have proved things before with certain races etc......

Ive driven and have tuned and stock Pug 106's and there isnt a way it would keep up the the Ek9 on a long stright.... maybe wont do terrible to about 70MPH but after the type R has alot more throat......

The handling of the EK is incredable in comparison to alot of cars on the road.
 
Can you give us any reviews concerning the two cars' handling performance? That is regarding steering feedback, oversteer/ understeer, lift offs and brake through corners ability? How much better is the ek9? Is there any test comparison available on line?

lol, people i cannot name 1 stock pug to keep with an EK9..............

As said i have a fair bit of experienced with racing pugs and few mates have had them etc, and they are quick but would get there arses kicked by an EK9 driven well.... Im talking stock on stock....

I cant believe anyone is saying a 106 GTi is faster than a VTi!!!!

A few of my friends and people i know have 106gti's Saxo VTS's and when my VTi was still a b16 - they couldnt touch me - have video proof if anyone needs it (not of my car but actually my friends which had less HP).

Oh and its the reason i have Bye Bye GTi on my Reg plate as there is so many people who over rate 106 gti's and VTS's

And now my car has b18c6 i have raced a 168bhp 106 Gti which has the 160bhp kit installed by ecosse and rolling roaded at 168bhp and i ripped him a new one and left it for dust.
