So i've never had a private plate and in a moment of sheer geniusness came up with the perfect plate for the 9.

I put it into my car check and it didn't come up as on a car and when i put it into the dvla private reg site it doesn't list it.

Does this mean if I call the dvla I can get it??

No
If it isn't on the DVLA site then it just means they don't have it for sale. But it could be owned by another reg site, or held on retention by someone.

I'm not sure but definitely worth a try. You know how arsey people get about data protection though, so they might be a bit cagey.

I'll give it a go. They will no doubt say I can have it and then tell me it's 12 grand!

Erm.....i kept mine on the down low until i had paid for it :secret:

I haven't had a chance to call yet but it would be a plate for the car more than me. If I was to sell the car the plate would go with it...

It's funny tho because I can remember seeing a 9 for sale a while. Back and I'm positive it was on a 58 plate?

What website are you using? I found reg transfers to be cheaper than dvla. Newreg.com is fairly good priced aswel.

I dont know how it works to be honest. When i bought it, said i could only assign the number plate to a 'T' reg or above. Thinking of going facelift ek9 just for the plate. Haha.

I just came up with a reg in my head and checked to see if it was attached to a car and it wasn't and I couldn't find it on any sites.

I thought the rule was you couldn't make a car appear newer so like your plate can't go on the car as your would be r/s 98 and t is 99 but I would swear that the one for sale was on the new style reg. So it was more year it was imported not year it was made.

Seen a few DC2's etc on 52/53 plate reg's and put it down to the year they were brought in. Sure my gf's dads mk1 mx5 was the same. It was on an Irish plate but would have been put onto an R plate if UK registered as that's when it arrived in the UK

i had bad experience with dvla and the private plate that was on my 9 when i bought it. basically it was stolen from underneath me and dvla would not take any part in it or give a single piece of info

I have K20PNY on my civic as my surname is penny.

For my 18th (a long time ago!) I had S18PNY have that on retention as my civic is a p plate so can't use that haha

What I dont get though is how only some cars have a plate respective of date of import and most are by year of manufacture. EK09 CTR would be a belter!

I'm sure I've seen a car with that or something very similar but it was on something pants like a Kia.
