yoooo bit of a strange question for anybody that resides in either the Netherlands or Denmark, or Sweden and Norway I guess also.

I basically want to know what it is like to live in these countries, obviously only a rough idea but here are some questions im interested in:

1. How seasonal is the weather, Iv read somethings which say the average temperature isnt that much higher than in Scotland but are you able to expect the weather, ie in Summer time, can you make outdoor plans and it be unlikely for it to rain?

2. Can I buy/import an EK9? Iv seen guys on here from both these countries Im sure, how difficult is it? What is the cost roughly?

3. I understand Amsterdam is very expensive to rent accommodation, what about other parts of Holland or Denmark?

4. Is the low unemployment rate and low inflation obvious? Do people appear to be happy haha?

5. Obviously marijuana has been decriminalised in the Netherlands and has not been in Denmark, but what kind of approach does the Danish authorities have towards it? is it widely used? Iv read that a part of Denmark is trying to champion decriminalisation but no idea how much truth was in that.

I realise noone will probabaly answer these but any answers at all would be sick.

Wont be that long and it will be legal over here. will just have to wait for david cameron to realise how much money theyre losing out by not growing it and taxing it. its a no brainer. looked into moving to dam before. mad place! Was there last november and it was boiling which was nice.Language barrier puts me off though. dutch seems like a hard language to learn especially when baked although most do speak english but hard with a welsh accent lol

if its the netherlands you are thinking of, rotterdam is a great place to live :)

Just got back from Amsterdam on Friday, excellent place to go whether you smoke or not, my cousin lived there for a uni course last year and it was very reasonable, weather was low 20's and sunny every day last week. Learning Dutch isn't a problem as children are taught English from a young age. In regards to weed legalisation over here, doubt itll happen anytime soon if it does.

Weed legalisation would be bad. Decriminalisation is a superior alternative imo.

I have heard that about Rotterdam man.

Im just thinking about doing a year of uni away if I stay for some additional years and these are the places Id like to go haha.

1. How seasonal is the weather, Iv read somethings which say the average temperature isnt that much higher than in Scotland but are you able to expect the weather, ie in Summer time, can you make outdoor plans and it be unlikely for it to rain? The weather for this summer thusfar is quite bad. In general, the weather is pretty seasonal. Occasional sun in summer, occasional snow in winter bla bla bla.

2. Can I buy/import an EK9? Iv seen guys on here from both these countries Im sure, how difficult is it? What is the cost roughly? It isn't that hard. It's best to import a car from Japan to the UK first though, since it is easier to get that European MOT approval there (in consideration with RHD driving and such), but it isn't impossible at all. My ek9 was imported without any issues (from the UK)

3. I understand Amsterdam is very expensive to rent accommodation, what about other parts of Holland or Denmark?
At the moment Holland is getting more and more expensive with Taxes and such. If you're looking to live in a big city (amsterdam, rotterdam) expect to pay for it. As far as the less crowded cities / places go, i am unaware of prices unfortunately..

4. Is the low unemployment rate and low inflation obvious? Do people appear to be happy haha? the unemployment rate isn't as bad as UK. The low inflation can be pretty obvious for those with less-paying jobs obviously. Like i said at point 3, the taxation of alot goes up, prices get higher and such so it's do-able but with good financial planning.

5. Obviously marijuana has been decriminalised in the Netherlands and has not been in Denmark, but what kind of approach does the Danish authorities have towards it? is it widely used? Iv read that a part of Denmark is trying to champion decriminalisation but no idea how much truth was in that. no answer for this one, sorry.

I can agree on Zero9 his answers :)

Living in holland myself. Japanese cars from before 1998 are cheaper to get on license because of the extensive road test they will do before giving you the papers :)

1. How seasonal is the weather, Iv read somethings which say the average temperature isnt that much higher than in Scotland but are you able to expect the weather, ie in Summer time, can you make outdoor plans and it be unlikely for it to rain? The weather in Denmark is similar to Holland, maybe less rain. But we have had some mild winters the last years.

2. Can I buy/import an EK9? Iv seen guys on here from both these countries Im sure, how difficult is it? What is the cost roughly?

In Denmark we have to pay car tax. When importing a car you pay roughly 60% of the cars value in tax. It's easy to import European registrered cars, if they are not made outside EU. I bought my EK9 in England so it should have been easy to register since it had British plates on. But because the car was from after 1997 I had to get some documents from Honda Japan, using the vin number. Which stated the cars DB at a certain RPM, pollution, MGP(KM/L), effect, number of airbags, brakes and clutch were aspestos free and fullfilled all other danish regulations. But since the car never had been made for EU it couldn't fulfill the regulations. So you have to know some people that doesn't care about all that, to get a Jap import car registered in Denmark

3. I understand Amsterdam is very expensive to rent accommodation, what about other parts of Holland or Denmark?

The bigger the city the more expensive. Overall I think it more expensive than in the UK. But I guess the income is higher in Denmark aswell.

What is your average time rate/wage?

4. Is the low unemployment rate and low inflation obvious? Do people appear to be happy haha?

Again I think it's quite similar to Holland. You know Danes are the happiest people in the world - World Happiness Report 2012: Scandinavian Countries Are Happiest On Earth (SLIDESHOW)

5. Obviously marijuana has been decriminalised in the Netherlands and has not been in Denmark, but what kind of approach does the Danish authorities have towards it? is it widely used? Iv read that a part of Denmark is trying to champion decriminalisation but no idea how much truth was in that.

It is illegal but not when used for medical reasons. Addicted people who are on rehab or others who needs it for other reasons.

There have been a lot of talking about "Christiania" and marijuana they have been selling on the streets, where everyone could come and buy some.
But years ago the police stopped it and had the area "cleaned" but it was not only because of the marijuana, they lived in some abandoned houses and didn't pay house taxes. Today they are still selling if not the police are patrol.

Zero9 has answered your questions, but i can add that, it's a great place.

I lived there for about 3 years, was in the early 90's though. I worked out there and had a great time, made some great friends and learnt alot. I lived in a place called 'Mijdrecht' small town, but quite often went to Amsterdam and Utrecht with some pals. In the summer Zandfort was cool. With work i got to travel to the north which was different but still cool. Good for cycling and walking, and i thought the road systems were very good.

Don't know much about the high times, was too busy getting smashed on Amstel.

I guess one day i would like to return.

The Chicks were nice too, bit more chilled i think.

wow they are excellent answers guys, thanks alot!!!
