One last problem...

hi guys I have managed to work through most of the issues I was having but there just seems to be one last thing and I'm really running out of ideas.

The engine seems mechanically sound. Starts idles and revs no problem. No smoke. No strange noises. So all seems good mechanically.

Initially I was having the same problem as @nicole_ code a11 engine overheating and it was hitting a limiter. Sorted that by upping the threshold to 95 degrees c in s manager and that now seems good. No more code 11.

The problem is the car bogs and won't Rev when driving anywhere between 3-5k. It's not limiting. S manager display shows that the limiter is off when the problem is happening. The best way to describe it is like the fuel is cutting out. So it revs up smoothly and then just stops revving and starts to bog and struggle. Sometimes at 3/3.5/4/4.5/5k. feathering the throttle seems to get it through a little but it's not right. The wiseband gauge shows its rich very rich 10.8/11:1 but when it starts to bog the fuel jumps between the two extremes on the gauge v rich to v lean quickly. Like the fuel is cutting out. Ignition is anywhere between 30 - 19 degrees advanced. Lower the revs when the issue occurs the further advanced it is. Sometimes it will bang when it starts sometimes it doesn't. More often than not it doesn't which makes me think fuel?

It's a freshly built engine so I'm not looking to thrash it but I need it to Rev properly. I've tried three different calibrations and if seems to happen on all of them so I'm starting to think it's a physical fault with something? Dizzy/coil maybe? Going to try another one later. But no fault codes.

Had anyone come across this or something like it before? I'm really close to getting it all done. Just need to work this out and we are just about there... As always any advise or input is much appreciated.

Anyone?

Could be distributor related. Can you borrow one to try? Also have you synced dizzy timing with ecu? You need to lock the timing in Smanager and then set the distributor with a timing light

I have another distributor to try but i lent it to someone, picking it up tonight. I havent synced the timing no. I have set the static timing but I didn't know i needed to lock the timing in smanager. Could that be the issue?

Same in every gear?
Not throttle position related is it?
You got the correct map sensor installed?

Yeah same in every gear. Using hondata 4 bar map and its selected in smanager.
I thought throttle position but changed setting to default and its still the same.

Does it idle ok most of the time?
Try unclipping the injector plugs one by one (each cylinder) Engine should try and stall. If it's doesn't then the injector on that cylinder could be faulty.
But as mentioned, It does sound like coil could be dying or its probably something simple like the leads. I remember my teg when NA was misfiring like mad and it turned out to be leads.

My car would start missfiring if it was too rich. Pretty much from low 11s afr down. Could be the same for you.

Going back to basics, have you checked your spark plugs?

Thanks for the reply guys, got to the bottom of it. @Vtec6000 is an absolute ledge and did some remote work with the hondata. During the process there seemed to be an issue with the dizzy so i swapped it for another. Having done this i found the one that came off difficult to turn, cap off and discovered the screw that holds the rotor arm on the shaft had come out the cap was loose. The screw was lodged between the trigger sensor and shaft. I think this was causing the bulk of the problem however the fueling wasn't great and I was getting a bit out of my depth with adjusting the tables.

Anyway, it now has a base map and is all set to do it's running in miles. Massive thanks to aonghus for the time he pt into it today, and to everyone for getting back to me. Always appreciated...

Looking forward to meeting some of you guys at japfest

Glad your sorted. Very kind Aonghus helped you out remotely. Especially on a Sunday lol :)

Aonghus is the best! But his name is hard for me to spell.

Woo! Go Aonghus.
Its great for the forum to have access to some experience.

(Correct diagnosis that my maxed injectors were caused by a strugling fuel pump rather than being out of capacity too. Being able to trust his suggestion ultimately saved me the 50quid for a fuel pressure gauge and a load of hassle.)

Biggest bonus is he's mapping cars at sos performance in Glasgow at the end of the month. All going well on the japfest trip it'll be run in and ready to tune just in time for him being over. Happy days. @jesse888 hows that money tree you planted? Think I'm gonna need to plant a forest!

Yeah not much luck with that. My tree is planted in a deep hole that is my ek9.
So even if money was being grown I'd never reach it lol
