Right guys, got my MOT due in September and there was 3 things off the top of my head I'm not sure as to whether they are failures, advisories or just not picked up on

First on is the srs light in my ek9. Due to having a deep dish sparco wheel the airbag light is on. Have a feeling this became an MOT failure at the start of the year?

Secondly is the original seatbelts I still have in. These I know don't take long to remove(I now have fixed buckets and harnesses) but am I rigjt in thinking as long as the buckle/clip and the belt itself are both removed that's acceptable?

And lastly,I have a feeling my front discs may be warped but that will be confirmed this week. Are warped discs an advisory or a fail due to it being a safety issue? Albeit working but not to their full potential?

Any help will be much appreciated, cheers! :)

Steve

1. car will fail if any light stays on after the car is started
2.If the seat belts are in and the clips are in id leave them in as if your harness isnt approved for road use itll not pass
3.warped discs will be a fail straight up

I have some ek9 discs for sale if thats any help? I'm only down the road too.

edit, can you not use a resistor for srs light?

Remove the Srs bulb buddy

In N.I anyway, this can't be done anymore.

The light will have to appear for a few a seconds and go off.

I personally removed the passenger airbag too and and covered it with a cf tray, The rule is that you have to have both airbags or none, I chose to have none and removed the bulb.

Wire in a resistor, takes about 5 mins including deleting the code. Think I used a 1.6ohm one in mine.

Cheers guys. Seatbelt wise I'll have to remove the belts I think as I have nowhere to mount the buckle on to my seat rails without removing the harness eye bolts. I would have thought my takatas would pass an mot?

Wazer-what sort of money you looking for for the discs? Ideally I'm hoping to get a new set of discs and pads on the car before the mot once I've sold one or two bits I have lying around

Blueprint discs are very good quality, and can be had cheap from sim auto.
I bought a set and they have seen some aggressive use with aggressive pads and are fine

My srs light is on and I just phoned the test centre (halfrauds) and they said its just an advisory. This was in may.

Depends on how bad the discs are warp to affect the efficence's and balance between that axle

as far as my understanding of the regulations go

1. if your harnesses are secure at all mounting points and they restrain you safley they are a pass.
2. Your srs light is an advisory. I was meant to be a failure from 1st january but they held it off
3. As long as your brakes pull efficently on the rollers and arent visually nackered (hudge lips and excessive scoring etc) they will pass

Aren't your seats required to recline into at least 3 positions?

Also, I read in an article in banzai that if your car is highly modified that the rules on airbags/searbelts/seats are slightly different.

Hmm,seems there's a bit of debate on the srs light. Might just pull out the bulb anyway for all the time it takes.

The brake discs aren't too expensive,it's the pads I want that are pricey. Could always swap out the pads after my car's tested!

Harnesses are secure and definately hold you in! I can vouch for that one! Haha. As for seats needing to recline,I've never heard that before but obviously having fixed back buckets, mine don't!

Just did a quick search and it seems that if your car has rear seats fitted then you must be able to access them. However, a lot of the time different MOT testers will fail/advisory different things.

I suggest phoning the tester you will be using and just ask them. That's what I did and they were happy to tell me.

Cool,I might give them a ring and see what they say :) back seats aren't an issue as I dont have any

Seems my only real issue could be the brakes! I'll get my mate to check them out this week and see what he thinks as he's a mechanic then I'll have a better idea from there

The srs light is a pass honestly there is no confusion.

Your seat does not have to recline. As long as its secure in an upright position its a pass. If the seats are on rails they have to slide and lock in position. Im assuming u have no rear seats or seatbelts

As long as your brakes pull over 600 kgf and are in balance your car should pass. (readings are for a vti so for a ek9 it may be slightly less)

Ring the test station or search the vosa guide on line but i think u will find im correct :nice:

I wasn't 100% on the srs light before my MOT so I turned it off using a paperclip and a 2.2ohm resistor, probably quicker than removing the bulb, it annoyed me with the light been on anyway.

Cheers Ellis!

Yeah I have no back seats and the belts are out and the front seats do slide(although are mega stiff due to the eyebolt for the harness against the transmission tunnel, but once in place they do lock out and dont move.
