Hi all,
Im new to the site and thought i should say hello. My names Joe, im 20 from Chester.

Ive joined really just to get an insight into modifying and tuning Civics. There will probably be future threads that may seem stupid and very simple to answer, but i have very little knowledge on these cars, hence im here to learn from you all, so please be patient :)

Im part of a club and cruise in the North West called PHCruise, its on a Saturday night in Bagilt in North Wales. We also socialise during the week doing various things. Anyway, theres a lad (Kev) may be on here? who came down in his EK9 Type R and to say the least, i fell in love!

Now ive been looking at them and they are out my price range to be honest. So im thinking of buying a 1.4 and doing a conversion to get power. Im from the Vauxhall scene and have extensive knowledge about their Engines and conversions in that department. In a Corsa B, putting a C20LET is the bee's knee's, the best way to achive power from a 2.0 turbo lump, out the box running around 247bhp standard! Average conversion costing around £1400.

So my question to you guys is...what is the crem d l'crem of engine conversions, the best and most powerful for an affordable price to put in a EK? Basically the Civic equivilent of a Corsa Turbo conversion?

Let me know your idea's and fill me full of your knowledge :)

Cheers guys!

K20 :nice: if you get someone else to do it for you you're looking about £6K
B16s/B18s are a popular upgrade for civics to get a little more power
You could always do a B20 VTEC build as well.

As for finding out information...the search button will help tenfold :nice:

Welcome to the forum dude

Hi all,
. Anyway, theres a lad (Kev) may be on here? who came down in his EK9 Type R and to say the least, i fell in love!

Thats nice, did he call you back? hahaha

Jks aside, K24bottom with a K20 head or K20 or B20!

Welcome to the site!

Im going to sound a little special, but you're going to have to treat me like a retard for a few weeks ha!

K20? Is that the EP3 Type R engine?

And phwooaar £6k! Thats a LOT of chedder! £6k in my little vauxhall world would see me with a 600+bhp Corsa that could run sub 10second quater miles! :O

What sort of price just for the engine and bits needed? I wpuld attempt the conversion myself to broaden my skills.

K24/B20 VTEC? What are these out of? and what sort of power are we talking?

This could prove to be a costly fascination!

Hello
I know Kev and yeah he is on here mate. The K20 is the ep3 engine yes and the k24 engine is out of the CRV as well as the B20. There is a small meet on friday in wrexham so I hear, not too sure how many but not loads could come along and have a look around.

Marc

The K20a2 is out of the EP3 and FN2 (latest Type R), The K20a is out of the Japanese EP3, DC5 Integra Type R and the latest FD2 (latest civic Type R). The K24 is out of a Honda CR-V.

I think alone it will cost more than 6k for the parts, that is excluding labour on average. I think it depends on which K20 engine you are going for.

Best thing to do is research man, use the google search function on the left hand side of the forum page and you will find loads of info you require :nice:

Welcome to the site bud. Few of us on here from in or around Chester. I'm from the Vauxhall scene too. Got me an EK9 now and is the best thing I've ever bought!...

best engine ? in reallity they are all great engines power wise i think k series and j series would easilly put a lot of power but then again is not cheap as they say all good things come with a price. just do what everybody says do your own research look for good deals on swap parts..

Use the search function, heaps of info on this forum about engines/conversions :)

K24 bottom end with a K20 head with ITB's, won't be cheap though. TBH though a B18'd EK9 is going to go like a little rocket, even more so in something lighter like an EG or EF Civic.

WOW lots of info to think about! Cheers guys. From what ive read, the B18 swap is a popular one then, i'll bear that in mind!

Looking around on your classified section, it seems alot cheaper to buy one already tuned. obviously you haven't done it yourself, but you could add your own touch to it.

Had a read through the EK4 vs EK9 debate too. Some interesting points.

I think the with the price of modifying these compared to Vauxhalls, my best bet is to flog my Astra and just buy a played with EK9 rather than try and build a fast EK.

I NEED A VTEC IN MY LIFE!

If you saying 6k is alot for the K20... then don't go for k20..

if you went for a well built B18 with circa 225 WHp that would embarress alot of car's..

225WHp may not sound like much as you are coming from a world of turbo'd vauxhall's but pit a turbo'd corsa on track agasin't a 225whp EK9 and it will eat it apart...
For me its not all about big power goals.... its more about the way it goes.. a nicely setup chassis with a B18 with 225WHP ...you will not be diaspointed..

However if you are after big power from a conversion... Don't know why know-one has said yet but there is such thing as a D-series engine..
In the U.S some of these little 1.6 SOHC engines prodcue 700WHP and you could get a civic with the 1.6 lsi engine in it for under a grand..
i am sure you could build a d series engine up to 400HP easily on 6k..

Let us know what you want to do with the car.... Trackday/daily driver - all out track car - No track and just a cruiser - Show car .. or simply a fast road car....

Good move though... vauxhall to honda...

its like moving from DIADORA to NIKE.. :))

also dude you didn't say what you drive at the moment ??

post some pics.. sure people won't mind.. If you are going for an EK9 i'm sure a couple of pics of a vauxhall won't hurt anyone..
