Here's the situation. As with most 300++whp FWD cars, wheelspin is a very big issue in improving your 1/4 mile times.

Now, assuming that the power/torque from the engine and the friction coefficient on my tire will remain constant, is it logical for me to use a taller 1st gear?

Because in my opinion and based on what I have observed, cars that get good 60ft times put their 1st gears on good use (meaning instead of just wheelspinning in one place, they do actually go somewhere). I have gone thru the "decreasing the power" way (gear based boost, smoother torque curve thru higher compression ratio, etc) but I just can't help but feel a little stubborn on turning the power down at low speeds.

I wouldn't want to use slicks, and I am using the stickiest tires available locally that's within my budget, plus suspension settings best suited for drag. This is very exploratory to me, and I want some inputs from you guys.

What do you think? Logical? Or am I just plain nuts? I'm just using an 4.4 LSD ITR btw, so let this be the basis.

just get sicker tires work for me.or just dont floor it so can control the spining when in first gear.

of course I have tried that already. I'm just curious on will the taller gear help or not

Yes a taller 1st gear will help getting off the line better. Its common to see high powered fwd cars even launching in second gear. Have you tried this? What boost are you making in 1st gear?

Launching in 2nd sounds like it would be hard on the clutch unless you had the right setup... anhywho, what parts do you have so far?

-stiffer rear springs to prevent squat
-traction bars
-stiffer engine mounts

will all help and be far cheaper than a longer 1st gear but the longer 1st will help, that's why mfactory sells it :nice:

What tires exactly do you have now? I too have A LOT of wheelspin at 317whp and i was using Nitto NT01 tires :( but my car was setup for RR/handeling not drag...

@vtec6000:

ok thanks that's what I needed to know :) hoping to make just about 7 psi on 1st gear stock ITR one.

yup I think it would be very hard on the clutch and the axles too. I already have everything of those, but I know once I turbo my p.o.s. it would behave like the thousands of B turbo Hondas out there :s I will be using Advan Neova AD08, the best available locally :(

thanks for the input, that's all I needed to know :)
