Need Ideas from you petrolheads!!

Gonna start work on a new tattoo soon, and am gonna sleeve my left arm (my right is already sleeved) and was hoping you guys might have some input on an idea I have..

The whole piece is gonna consist of smaller pieces of work, for example on the inside of my forearm I'll have something like this

Now since engines have been a love of my life for so long, I want to get something to represent that on my upper arm. So I've been thinking about what kind of representation/picture of an engine to have drawn.

A common one in tattoo's is a piston (see below) but I'm thinkin it's a little too basic.

So I guess what I'm essentially asking, is have any of you guys seen or have ideas for any pictures/representations of engines that look cool? If so, let me know, it would be really appreciated!!!
 
not really helping you out here . few of my mates have got tatoos but i have always gave it a miss due to shitting how sore it is . is it that bad to get done ???
 
no there not that bad is down to the individuals pain threshold i have two big un's one on my back which crosses back of my rib cage,shoulders and top half of my arm in shaded tribal they are both custom i might add ;) anyways back to max im not really sure i like the piston thing mate its a hard one to judge really!!!
 
^^ Yeah im not too sure about the piston either. You want the tattoo on your arm?
 
Nah, I'm not talking about getting the piston done, I'm not a huge fan.

I'm just tryna get ideas of how to represent an engine in my tattoo, so need ideas on a good picture of an engine.. Something like the below, or a valvetrain image etc:

I thought this is a pretty cool pic of an engine:

If sticking with the engine theme couldn't you have one done that incorporates various engine internals to make it look like you had an "internal combustion arm"? Replace the elbow with a crankshaft at BDC so it pivots below the joint and would then rise up your arm which would be the cylinder.

Just a thought.
 
If I was going to get a mechanical tattoo I'd probably go down the 'window' route. Not sure how to explain what I mean though! :D

Where it looks like the tattoo is actually showing what is beneath your skin as if there is a rip in it then you could have a piston as if that was your arm?

This is kind of what I mean but obviously with a spiderman outfit instead of an engine :)

@ Wayne - I get what you mean man, ties in with what Champ. White was saying. Liking the idea a lot, just need a decent artist to draw something up.

Any artists out there?
 
thats a SICK tattoo on that lads chest, looks like airbrushing lol
 
i think it would be better if you keep it all black(shaded etc), if your thinking of adding an engine pic..... the vavetrain would look pretty cool:nice:
 
I really dig the first ones but I not so sure about the car parts. The girls are artsy and the car parts seem to me to be more of a trend/fad.
