My J's Racing Intake Installation...

so basically why spend 360 pounds on the mugen intake when you could get the spoon direct air flow pipe and spoon panel filter and use the original airbox?

so basically I just find a pipe and stick it at the bottom of the filter airbox, and point the other good source of outside air?

spoon direct airflow, is it worth the money? where did RVM find your direct airflow plastic section?

Brent/Tmus: Yes, thats right! You just need to use a knife and get an intake as good as MUGEN. Besides, Hondas OEM intake box is made of high quality material which doesn't absorb heat but repels it. You'll understand the quality when you open the cover and take a look at it.

Tmus: SPOON direct airflow pipe just promotes the flow curve without disrupting the air waves.

Ive already asked rvm this, but I'll ask you aswell jugbugz:) After trying the above intake mod, and the j's racing intake, which setup dyou recommend?

haha, your the first person to ask. Well, I haven't really been able to throughly test it but last time I had dynoed my car with;

-J's Racing Chip + Stock intake with CAI mod
-Stock ecu + J's Racing intake + shield

Results were;

J's Racing Chip + Stock Intake with CAI mod made xx amount hp

And then wanted to dyno it again after the J's Racing Intake, but however by then I had a problem with J's Racing Chip so I had to reinstall the Stock ECU and went to the dyno and guess what.....................same xx amount PEAK hp... yup thats right same peak power with the stock ecu + J's intake. But I made more power in the low and mid range and begining of top end with the J's intake, after that the peak power was the same.

So I guess if I had the J's Racing chip with J's Racing intake, I'm very sure that I would have made more power everywhere. J's Racing's ecu has better timings than the stock ecu for my basic mods, but it was the J's Intake that bumped up the power with the stock ecu.

I'll have another chance to dyno it later before the 1.8L stroker kit + cams because I've managed to get the J's Racing chip installed properly onto my ecu and working now. I'll also dyno it with the Pre-tuned Apexi Power FC just for the fun of it.

I really recommend POWER FC:nice: if you can get it, GET IT!!!! It monitors just about everything you need to know and more. So you won't need to install on those air temp guage, water temp guage, etc etc. Also it comes pre-tuned by Apexi, so why bother buying SPOON and other aftermarket chipped ecus when you can have a pre-tuned software thats tunable and gives you all the info you'll ever want from your engine? I regret buying J's and SPOON chip and should have just put that money into a Power FC earlier... :angry:

whats the retail on the power fc? its a new ecu and controller ye?
having a hard time finding a uk dealer. is it something youd recommend even if most mods i will be doing over the next year or 2 will be NON internal. intake,exhaust/manifold etc.

Definitely YES!:woot: Because, it's already pre-tuned by Apexi with a more sporty mapping, So it's fine with basic mods. It basically an ECU with a Commander controller. So you can replace your stock ecu with Apexi.

In future, if you've got a tuner handy, you can always fine tune your setup + have all the monitoring that custom guages would envy. If something is wrong like O2 sensor, MAP sensor, voltage, etc etc it will tell you in the sensor page. Even if you apply the brake or accelerator, it knows. :nice:

If you can source out a 2nd hand one specifically for your motor, then it's just plug and play. New ones, are around 1000AUD retail. I got mine from Japan.

Just remember it has to be specific to your engine.

cheers jugbugz....sorry to ask one more question...does it come with a seperate real time display unit for the car then? or do you plug in the commando module and monitor that.

Power FC comes with Commander that will provide you real time display, redline point, vtec point etc etc at the touch of your fingers. The commando plugs into a socket(looks like your keyboard socket) on the ecu box.

This is difinitely worth the money:nice: because why pay so much for a pre-tuned ecu when you can have both for the same price???:nerv:

I think the Commander was initially optional but now is mandatory to pay for it along with the Power FC. :angry: I didn't want to buy it because I WON'T use it in my car here cuz our police has "problem" with Civics! :mad:

lol! Just hide it... :nice: Anyway it's a very very handy device. I can set and know anything, anywhere, anytime.

Isn't that a bit dangerous to change your settings every now and then?
What if you mess up for example the mixture, ignition, timing....... :nerv:

hey guys im new here i just bought my new js racing c/f intake for my ek4 and its sounds and goes like a monster!

Just don't touch the mixtures and timings. you can always just play a bit with Vtec kick in and redline, but if you know how to do minor adjustments then it's very very useful. Oh, and theres a trick that if you take your car into for service or a shop to get something done to it, you can always set your redline at 3000rpm so that they can't just go out and thrash your car LOL :lol:

Also, you'll have all the monitoring you need.

Great idea :D

hmm, having trouble finding some suitable pipes as J's intake tip is fairly large. If I can't find anything, then just have to improve on the shield.

dammm got yellow sticker n loss of license, looks like everrything including my new j's intake must come off back to stock jocks again :(
