I'd like to relocate my window switches as its no good having them on the door anymore. I thought this might be a fairly simple job ox extending the wires back through the door to a switch, however ive had a look and theres many many wires going into the switches
has anyone done this before? I know the wires on the drivers side will be mirror controls too, but even the passenger side has more than two/three wires on it

Would you consider converting to manual? Save weight and electrical reliability.

She'll have no space for a window winder either. Roll cage gets in the way.

Can you not just wire in some wire to the switch/box and run them to another switch, and leave all the other wires behind the door ?

Get the switch panel from a mini one and use that on your dash

Depends on how the switch works. Most older style switches will have quite a few wires as they work by a reverse polarity on the switch itself. It's not just one wire up, one wire down as you'd effectively be putting live to earth at least one way. Can you not pull the entire loom back thorough the door grommets and split it that way. Defo easiest way is to extend the wires, and if you're unsure of the door mirror then extend everything and place it all in car.
Really easy job with a roll of wire and a soldering iron!

But then again one of my jobs in today is sorting out this rats nest !!!

If you have the time, you can de-pin the plug that connects to the switch then pull the wires back through the door grommet then reconnect and mount the switches wherever. You'd need the door cards and probably the front wings off though to get the wires pulled back into the cabin.

Get mini one dash switch and plug with wire , splice your wires at switch connect mini one wires to suit ,
Will make a nice little switch panel also .
Just a idea.

Okay, we've done pretty much exactly what you're looking to do, but a) it's been a fair few years since we did it, and b) it was actually my father who did the main switch wiring. But here's what I can remember we went through...

- It was definitely easiest to just run an extension of the wires from the drivers door back to the center console (or wherever your switches will be). The loom into the door includes the power window controls, central locking etc, so unless you're ditching all of that, trying to just extract the window wiring back out would be an absolutely massive job. We simply ran a single run of 7-wire trailer wiring, and I'm pretty sure we didn't use all 7 wires within it.

- Remember that the drivers door has wiring and controls for BOTH windows. I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think we needed to do anything at all on the passenger side, other than unplug the surplus switch.

- pdapaul is correct in that the motor control wiring uses the same wires to power the windows both up and down; you change the current polarity to change the direction of the motor. For us, this meant multiple relays in behind each window switch to handle the current direction change.

So, not that difficult with a bit of logic and patience. Good luck!! And pics when done please. :D
