missfiring, stuttering, retarded and hessitating, help

hi to all, im having a bit of a problem with my civic, when i start my car when its cold it runs fine but very some afterwards it starts to spit and shake,put down the boot and nothing happens just the more spluttering and jerking, if i pull in it idles like a bitch, backfiring and popping from the exhaust, i feel it could be an ignition problem like distributor but that is just my opinion, maybe the lambda sensor but it seems very serious for to be just that, but that is just my opinion and i dont exactly have a clue, the engine management light aint on, but i did do a diagnostics and it had a code stored which was code 20 which was electrical load detector. has any one had any experience with the e.l.d and could my problem be associated with it, any help greatly appreciated
 
Ime sure that sensor is inside the dizzy. Does your dizzy look like its in the middle ?
 
I had near enough the same problem, turned out to be just the spark plugs! i was fearing the worst aswel, was pleased when i found out though.

as far as i am aware the e.l.d is part of the fuse box, also i was told that replacing it involved replacing the whole box??

well it would be a relief if it was only that, and lucky enough i have a new set of iridiums at home so it is surely worth a try... faulty plugs wouldnt put on the engine management light would they?
 
I dont understand how a sensor that picks up how much strain the engine is under is in the fuse box :confused:
 
as rich has said i'd still try the dizzy first,even if you could borrow one from a mate,it'd be the first thing i'd try.

well i am kind of thinking it is ignition alright, but my brother is adiment that it could be the o2 sensor, would you reccomend just trying the dizzy cap or the whole thing? its just that there is no eml light on confuses me, surely a problem such as a dizzy would throw it on? the light does work as i have done diagnostics

E.L.D fault won't effect running of engine. Swap over the whole dizzy and see how it runs
