Hi all i have what i thought was an OEM LSD from a 98 ek9 however 2 people have told me that it isnt and is in fact an aftermarket unit, Any help is greatly appreciated
thanks for the info guys really unsure now when i took it to have it serviced at a specialist recently he said it was aftermarket item. I have looked for any markings but it has none, looking at the pic dino posted its definately not the original. It was in a cusco box so it may be. do you think????
thanks again i have never used it so i dont know what it felt like when car was driven to be honest. what price would it fetch they are like 1200usd new, in two minds whether to sell as i need brakes or whether to go all out and save it till i get my cross gear kit???????
If you cant get a satisfying price for it, by all means keep it. The standard helical LSD doesnt respond that fast and direct after all, the Cusco RS operates like a clutch type LSD, is progressive as well and is also more aggressive. And they last for a long time... if I remember correctly, been a while since I used those.
You might want to change the setting from 1.5 way to 1 way if youre not doing a lot of tracking though. On slippery wet days having a 1.5/2 way may send you understeering and sliding about for no reason.
You'll need a mechanic to reassemble it with the loading shaft (not sure what exactly its called) installed in the correct position between the plates (3 positions to choose from), if it indeed is a cusco LSD.
And uh actually I saw it wrongly, the pic doesnt show which mode its in. It might be in 1-way mode after all.
In the picture you can see the shaft through the upper hole of the LSD. This shaft is responsible to push the plates apart with variable strength therefore engaging the LSD under acceleration/deceleration. The shaft may move forward (acceleration) and backward (deceleration) thereby activating the LSD depending on the shape of the plate housing.
