Hi guys,Some of u may have been asked this question alot so my appoligies if it has been posted already! I am finding it hard to get a quote on an ek9. I am 20 few months away from turning 21 and hav no NCB. I know this is not what u need to get a quote but i am hoping to just been insured on the car and keep it in my dads name...i am really unsure as to what to do or how to work the system .what would be the cheapest way and what companys do you recomend, any feed back of simillar situations would help.

sky-wont insure me so any1 else u think will touch me plz leave the details, cheers ryan;)

Being under 21 with zero NCB is going to make it extremely hard to even get insured let alone get a half decent price.

First of all forget the mainstream compaines, they wont touch you under these circumstances (group 21 grey import, zero NCB + under 21) presents you as a extremely high risk case. Try specialist import insurers, a fair few are listed on here.

Maybe get named on a parents policy for a few years or have them named on yours?

Do you own the car or are you merely looking for quotes for a possible purchase

yeh i am gona try smaller companies and see what they can offer. I am not caring how i am insured whether it be through my parents or whatever i just want to be insured on the car ,would it be cheaper if my father sayed it was his car and just added me as a driver my mother wil also be on the insurance to try and bring it down!

what companies do u suggest? thanks for ur help mate:)

Try getting quotes with you as the policy holder and comprehensive cover. It can often work out cheaper than being a named driver on policy, for some bizare reason. Add older named drivers to your policy. A few middle aged women (mum, dad, aunt, etc) on your policy will bring it down :nice: Have a high voluntary excess (mine is £1000 :nerv:) And if you can pay it all at once instead of monthly payments, as admin charges will save you a fortune.

Try admiral, bell, sky etc.
I'd say you are looking around the £2000 mark, I'd imagine you will find something. I was 19 when i got my 9 with 1 yr no claims. I pretty much phoned Admiral everyday for a couple of months until they would insure me hahah It worked :D Also insurance prices tend to go down during the summer months so keep trying :nice:

Hope that helps

thanks alot mate that helps a great deal ,and kinda puts my mind at ease cant wait to get my 9,have been waiting 5 years for it so i dont want anything getn in my way lol ,cheers for the help mld22;)

Most insurance companies are not going to believe it is your 'fathers' car.. it will be viewed at a potentially fronted policy. Does your father have his own car as well? Is this really your car?
I cannot see many insurers wanting to insure a 20 year old with no NCB on an EK9.

no it is his car,yes he has another car aswell

Insurers will view it at a potentially fronted policy.

Do you need to drive it? You realise the insurance price will be based on the risk you present not your father?

Yes i understand that ,

best price so far £3600 will Admiral......al keep trying :(

As has been mentioned you will be very lucky to get insured on a ek9... Im 21 with 4 years ncb and im just over a grand, you will struggle im afraid

Just over a grand for me too when I got the EK9 at 22 with 5 years NCB

Hi BL!TZ . I am just wondering how much cost the insurance for ek9 when you are 22yo and got 5 years NCB. cheers

if its any help, in ireland quinn direct can insure you on any other car as long as its not in your name and you have your own policy with them. so to be insured on your 9 you could get insured on your own cover on a cheap run around like a micra and then you will be insured to drive any other car as long as its not in your name and it must have nct and tax. so you will be insured on your nine. and there does not even need to be insurance on the 9.

however its not as easy as it sounds as without tax on the nine you won't be insured and you cannot tax a car unless your cover is on that car.

its one way of getting around paying mad prices but there are some terms and conditions

i think its called some sort of third party extension or something not to sure on this though

^^^ only problem with that is the age think they only give it as an option for over 25's now as the insurance companies are aware of people doing this but i could be wrong

nope i looked into it :) ... im able to get it and i jus turned 19.... they told me i only need to have a full licence. this is for quinn direct in ireland though... im sure its different with other companys in the uk

i tryed quinn direct yesterday and they sayd they dont insure ek9s atall whatever age u are or hiwever many years NCB u have. so ur saying if i became the policy holder for my dads other car which is a 1.2,they i will be insured to drive the 9? i am 20 btw with no NCB

You won't be able to get this type of cover in the UK at 20.
IMO Your best bet is admiral. Keep phoning them, it will go down if you give them a number plate and car details rather than just giving them info on a EK9. High excess, pay all at once, try the 10 month policy etc

Your right got a policy out with them 2 weeks ago with this open driving and i'm 20

You passed you test?
That's why it will be dear aswel as you have just passed ur test and havnt been driving long.

yes but this is only in ireland as far as im aware. if you are insured on your dads 1.2 on your own cover... quinn will insure you on any other car...as long as its taxed and tested and not in your name! so basically you will be insured on any car for at the most 1500 euro...
