Nuff Said.

Very nice mate, look forward to a few race videos if you get any

Thanks! :)

I hope to video them. Don't expect wins...I'm not used to it yet, nor will I ever be the fastest driver.

I nearly forgot...

It made 181hp on EFI Part's *brutally honest* dyno. (182hp is standard)

Fuelling is a touch rich at the top, and I'm not sure the ITR TB is right for the setup, though actually I'm happy with it as the fuel and power plots show its running very well and safely.

So...1st race at Snet 300 didn't go so well. I got 4 laps into qualifying. The below photos tell the story...

Have a lot of sympathy after reading that last update! Real shame, problem with used engines you rarely know the full history. You plan to have it running by the next race?

Very rare to see this happen to a 16B, unfortunate :(.

Should have kept the b16a in there, never missed a beat in 2 years or track driving!

Seriously tho its bad luck and with a replacement bottom end you will be back out again

How did the car go in the series up until the failure against the other cars? Do you have any idea how the bottom end failed, was it an untouched factory bottom end as its rare for them to fail?

Corum + No sump baffle is one theory. Conrod tried to weld itself to the crank. Piston and bore is fine from the top at least.
Engine took a trackday at Oulton with no issues so it wasnt buggered before im certain.

Watched vid back and otber than trying to find 6th a few times I didnt do anything to harm it.

It was quick. Seemed competetive! - Except me not knowing the track.

**** thats terrible!! engines can be funny, 3 of us went to kirkistown yesterday with civics, one k20, one b16b and my b18c, the k20 and the b16 spun big end bearings.. SPek9 was about to go out for a passenger run in the b16 one before it hapend but didnt get a chance. costly hobbie this is!

That is strange and I haven't ran a baffled sump in 7 years of being on the track in my Dc2, Ek9 and the Ek4. As you say you didn't know the history of the bottom end before you fitted it, did you check the bearings to try and work out if they were oem? I think ACLs have it stamped on them to see they have been changed in the past. Could have been oil pump failure too but you can check the pump

No way dude I was sitting at the gate waiting to leave and wondered why he came in early, how did you's get the silver ek home?

This must be the month for Honda bottom end failures and it is normally rare for it to happen. Any ideas for the cause of the b16b failing?

I knew I should have bought a reliable french car!

Going to look at an ex rally group n b16a1 tomorrow.

Just a question. Whats the brand of the coilovers and their spring rates? I am looking into a set for Autocross and dont know what spring rates to go with.

Stephen...yeah I have that. :)

I pick up (luck willing) the group n lump tomorrow. Then I will weigh up what to use.

The a1 has wild cams...its possible it has other things too so....

Sounds interesting!

You should keep the original b16a as a backup anyway incase you ever ran out of funds. That b16a kept up with my mates B18C EK when I had the close ratio gearset, both cars setup basically the same other than that

awsome build this, few questions on the gearbox did you just change the last 3 gears or did you do the final drive too ?

not sure what i want to do on mine yet ...

shame about the block though mate i'm having problems at the minute aswell with my b18c6r and it's just had the head re done so i'm a bit gutted ..
