Hello Everyone
I have a 1997 JDM Integra Type R and my gearbox is making a grinding noise when I engage third gear at high RPM - can someone tell me what parts have to be replaced? Is this a common fault in Integra gearboxes? I would appreciate your help very much

Try to change your LSD oil first :)

Yes try this first before you start looking at the internals, sometimes an gearbox oil change is all it needs, if its still there it could be the syncros.

Yea honda mtf is the best oil for them. Try giving it a flush and put the new oil in. That usually stops any slights crunches etc. If not then its the syncros buddy.

Got there before me RO lol.

Thanks a lot all of you. I had changed the oil less than 2 years ago (Motul) but I will try to change it again with Honda MTF.

You need to change the gearbox oil every 6000-8000km . Try stick to the Honda MTF unless your running a plated LSD , hopefully you will solve it before the synchro goes :nice:

landrover mtf does same job and cheaper, altho i do run oem honda oil myself. As said give it a go and see how you get on,there's a thread on here on how to change the gb oil

Unipart mtf 94 , this is what honda dealers use, and what landrover use.

:wow:

...quick, someone ship this mate some gear oil, and fast, like same day delivery!

proble the sincro in 3rd that went on my gearbox and it was grinding going in to 3rd

Apologies for the thread revival.

And before trying the oil change/synchro/box rebuild try this:
Sit in neutral with the engine ticking over, and whichever gear causes issue when trying to shift into it at high rpm just slightly push the gear stick into the gate of the gear causing issue just enough that you can feel the engine slow slightly and see the revs change (don't shove it enough to make it grind) its only so slightly!

I had a crunch into 3rd at high rpm from 2nd gear but after this little trick it went away completely... im talkings months and months and no more high rpm crunch :wow:

If that no work, oil change and if that still no work start lubing up because its gonna hurt your wallet unless you know how to drop the box and rebuild gear boxes.
