I'm thinking about breaking my EK9

I bought a cheap car from Ireland and it's a mess, thinking of breaking it if it doesn't pass the MOT emissions. I am shocked with the price of EK9 parts so wondering how much i'd get back for it, see if it's worth doing. It's a pre-facelift.

Engine is good, no smoke in VTEC
Gearbox has a notchy 3rd gear synchro
Spoon ECU
Recaros have good bolster but a few fag burns
Apexi VTEC controller
Standard breaks and suspension
3 strut braces, upper and lower in boot
16" Rota Grid alloys
Buddy Club exhaust (beaten up)

I'm a complete Honda novice, what other parts fetch good money?

Anyone broken one and got figures they are willing to share?

You are failing emission cause the spoon ecu, borrow a stock pct one from someone and you should pass

I asked on here about the emissions on a spoon ECU, the general opinion was it'd be no different to OEM for emissions as it's run off the lambda sensor

Depends how it was tuned, alot just buy "spoon ecus" that are not tuned to that car. When you get a spoon ecu you takr your car to type-one they tune a ecu and take your oem one. Do you have paper work from type-one? Bad maps can change how rich or lean your car runs

I've roughly priced it all up in my head and think it's the best way out of my situation.

another one getting broke! look at alex's py ek9 breaking thread for a guide of what can be broken for here and there.

I'm going to start breaking it in a week or so. Just looking and I need 250 posts to put a for sale thread on this website. That's kind of an incentive to spam the boards which I don't want to do. Is there a membership I can buy which will allow me to post in the for sale section?

well you can be a vendor but i think there is a process for that. best to is spam haha! but keep it subtle :p no point in being a vendor just to break a 9

Is the shell rusty? if its a rust bucket then just break it. If not then its prob not worth breaking. B16B's don't fetch much as everyone wants a B18, yr g-box has issues, Recaros not good ones, apart from bumpers/lips body panels not worth anything.
If shell is good I'll buy car off of you mate.

i imagine by the sounds of it the bodywork will be rough as a badgers arse lol but you never know :nice:

It's not rotten, bit of surface rust on the passenger side arch on the lip that folds in but it's not shot, other than that, it's just got a few stone chips. You can see the arch rust on this photo.

The shell does have it's fair share of door dents and stuff, be ideal as a track car.

I made a quick list of parts with rough ideas on prices. Any advice is welcome with regards to too high or low... (these aren't what i'm asking for parts, just figures I put together to work out if breaking is a viable option)

Cat £60
Exhaust £150
Recaro's £300
Bumpers £350
Engine £1000
Gearbox £250
Tyres £100
Wheels £150
Apexi £150
Manifold £50
Headlights £40 + £40
Rear seats £75
Braces £100
OEM Shocks £50
Brakes £100
Dash £75
Clocks £120
ECU £300
steering wheel £100
lowering springs £100

£3660

I'm missing the spoiler, most of the body panels off that list, hubs, door cards, etc. I've also priced some things cheaper than I think they may go for (the exhaust and wheels for example) but other things like the gearbox are a wild guess, could be worth £50 for all I know.

At the moment the car owes me £3500, i'd sell it whole for that but I don't think it's worth it. Not registered in the UK, no MOT, bit rough around the edges. I'll never buy another car from Ireland....

I'd like to think you would get a bit more than £50 for an ek9 s4c gearbox :nice:

I'd like to think so too. It does have a notchy 3rd gear synchro though. The whole box is a bit tight, wouldn't be surprised if some decent oil would make it perfect again but I'm not spending the money to find out.

The plan is to buy another car and then strip the Honda. It's a bit of a shame but that's life

Hi mate, I bought mine from Ireland and it has been a money pit :'( don't dare total up what I have spent on it, all I can say is NEVER buy from Ireland. Mine was described as immaculate :-$

anyway my mate put mine through an mot but did mention it was running very rich, I am honestly averaging low low 20's mpg (spoon ecu p73) rolling roaded at 197bhp but my classic impreza with 350bhp averaged 18 to the gallon so really the spoon ecu is not optimal for my setup BUT I have thoroughly enjoyed driving and owning an ek9, cult classic hot hatch :-D

I too am considering breaking my 9 or selling it to a breakers

good luck with yours :)

Oh and I think the sale rules should be tweaked to allow genuine ek9 owners to sell there cars on here hence the site title, cba spamming till 250 :)

Mine will become a money pit also, that's the reason i'm going to get rid of it. Can't even be bothered to take it back for the MOT re-test now as the garage I went to are arseholes, messed me about no end.
