Have you tried adjusting anything on the cable or linkage cable yet?
It might need adjusting. When the car is up to temperature, when the idle starts to drop, try adjust idle screw slowly to where it should be.

That picture of the small nut I posted should be touching the linkage on tick over but if the cable is too tight it will tick over high.

Just checked the idle on my 9. when car first starts it sits 1700 then drops to 7 possibly 6-800. You don't know if the garage has adjusted that screw to try and get it to idle properly ?
ok ill have a look now.

it sits at 800 on idle but will hunt randomly or as I said once driving come to a stop it is at 1k then drops to 200 then hunts but sometimes it just idles fine at the lights. very random

Another thing try cleaning the throttle body, take intake pipe of and clean the butterfly plate. Make sure no crap falls anywhere it shouldn't.

Have you fixed the issue now? If, so what did you do? I have exactly the same problem and coincidently have recently had work carried out on the car including valve clearances & timing belt!

Can you let me know what you did to fix this please? I have a similar issue, although the low idle/ trying to cut out only happens in the warm up phase once the car has decided it’s not cold but not quite up to temperature. On cold start up it’s completely normal with high idle and once fully up to temperature it will sit at normal idle. My problem only occurs if I touch the throttle and come off idle it then drops too low when not fully up to temp. If I cold start and just let it sit without touching the throttle it will get up to temp and the fan will come on fine with the idle doing a normal job, no dropping to 200-300 rpm

Things I have tried
- adjusted the idle
- had valve clearances redone
- cleaned iacv (then replaced with new)
- reset ecu
- changed spark plugs
- changed dizzy cap
- timing has been checked

Am I right in cleaning the tb next? Thanks

So for me cleaning the TB and Intake manifold was a must lots of build up ect blocking the ports for sensors. Could also try a new throttle position sensor. What engine are you running?

Ah ok thanks, yeah I’ll be cleaning them this weekend so fingers crossed! It’s a standard b16b
