Hydrolocked B16A2 - No compression.

SR he has doesn't have VTEC, so not much help to you Barry :) Apologies..

Just been out to do a basic check over. The cams are turning so cambelt is intact, and the pistons all sit at the right heights in the bores so doesn't appear to be bent rods. No coolant has disappeared so liners don't appear to be cracked and the oil in the sump is not contaminated so doesn't look like piston rings.

All it really points to is the valves being FUBARd.

Good luck with it man, i hope it works out not to expensive.

Pull the sump off and check the rod bearings for any sign of uneven wear. This will tell you if your rods have bent at all.

Also if you was to pull the exhaust manifold off you may be able to see if any of the exhaust valves are damaged.

Hope this helps

Well the head has been removed, and there appears to be no damage! All the valves and valvetrain is intact, and the bottom end turns over easily and all the pistons are in the correct positions. So still, I have no idea what broke it.

I should be able to get it honed and new rings fitted and have a spare bottom end, as it appears the piston rings may be on their way out on the B16B that replaced it! :(

The garage that swapped the engine took the head off, don't think he checked the timing before he did so I guess I'll never know.

Drowned my poor little car today in a flash flood, now it spins freely on the starter as there is no compression.

What is the more likely, bent valves or snapped cambelt?

Your going to have to strip it down to find out. Anything could be screwed when enough water gets in.

my old engine ????

how come ???

John

Yes unfortunately. Did the first autotest since fitting it yesterday and it burnt a shitload of oil and was smoking heavily on the throttle.

I knew I should have done the rings before fitting it, live and learn eh!

thats gutting mate . its really the only thing that hasnt been done to that engine as well

John

TBH I was concerned that it running rich on ITBs could have bore washed it, but as far as I know thats only really an issue when running in a fresh hone and rings. Will assured me it would be fine though, just one of those things I guess.

I'll compression test it again tomorrow, if it's all good then it's going to Brands Hatch in a week! :nono:
