Humming Noise

Been a while since I last posted as the car has become more of a weekend toy and no longer my daily.

I've noticed that I'm getting a humming noise when turning left. It appears the moment the wheel goes from straight ahead to left, the sound switching on and off almost like a switch not gradually appearing.

Sometimes on a very smooth road you can almost feel it resonating through the wheel.

There's no apparent noise going right, and sat still on the drive there's no noise, which suggests its not P/S related.

So am I looking at a wheel bearing or something else?

Any help would be great.

id say wheel bearing, i did put up the codes you need to get the kit from auto factors in suspension section, ive just done both of mine and i had same sort of sypmtoms

So is it likely to be a particular side? Or is it best to do both together?

I'm guessing its a garage job as I don't have access to a press :/

No need to do both but normally if say turning left it will be right bearing.
I have got a brand new one I never used sitting here.
Good luck Dunx

I would say do both at the same time, if one side has gone 9/10 the other side will be, or on its way out.

Well I've just been outside and jacked the car up and the drivers side has noticeable play, when I grabbed the wheel top and bottom and rocked it there was a fair bit of movement. The passenger side was rock steady which I'm guessing confirms the turning left (thus loading the right bearing) theory.

I've had a look about online using the code Matt O posted and prices all seem fairly similar. Just a case of finding a garage I trust to do it. If I can get the hub off myself then all they need to do is press in and out, though I'd rather they do the whole job as I don't want to get halfway through stripping it down to find I need an air gun then can't drive then can't drive it to a garage.

Such a PITA that most garages round here don't like modded cars!

id do both mate thats what i did with a work mate as he has a hydralic press, we struggled like **** to get the hub nut off was using a lorry bar and bit of scaffold and him hanging off it we only just got it off!! proper pain in the arse!
