I'm in the process of doing my brothers CV joint but one of the hub nuts just will not open, tried a meter long power bar and Snap on gun:nono:

Anyone got any suggestions?I dont have access to oxyacetaline unfortunately,am I missing something obvious here!!

Is it a honda Johnny? Have the dimple in nut banged out from cv joint shaft? If you have even a small gas torch to heat it up abit and spray some wd40 around it then beat the end of bar/ratchet with a hammer, shock force sometimes can open them easier than just using leverage. A good impact gun can normally open them...

try and get a garage to do you favour and put air gun onto it (some wont but ones with decent guys will)

i did this before i even attempted mine just in case while i was havin some tyres fitted and prob saved me the hassle your havin

as vtec 6000 says make sure you un lock it by beating the tab back with a punch.also use a 6 sided socket

Yeah mate,VTI running gear!I pressed that tab out,and in the hope that maybe the outer part of the nut was the problem,I got rid of most of the smaller bit of the nut...

The car isnt driving so my option is as said, take the hub off and bring it to somewhere with good heat torches...

Plan B(well, about plan Z because I tried every other letter already,I might try and drill into the flat part of the nut and try and break it...job for when its not lashing out I think.Cheers for the suggestions anyway!

The snap on gun I used is what I use when the airguns in work dont work! Its the main man for opening the Crankshaft nuts, and it wont open this!!

By the looks of it someone tried and failed to take it off before, there is chisel marks on the nut,and when we got the conversion the driveshafts were already in the hubs

sounds like your gonna have to destroy it to take it of then, last thing i can suggest is some scaffold pole over strong bar acting as extension and jump up and down on it but heat with blow torch first and some good penetrating fluid

If anyone has this hassle in future,I removed the hub with the driveshaft attached, brought it to my mate who is a truck mechanic,1inch drive air gun and the nut was off in two seconds :)
