hi all,
i want to get a bit more power from my ek9 but dont have the cash to go staight out and get an itr engine.

so for the time being i am goin 2 keep my b16b as i kno it is a strong engine and upgrade a few parts here and there

so what r the best mods for money on an ek9 that will c me good gains?

i have already modded my stock air box with cold air feed etc and am in the process of making my exhaust manifold, so if any1 can add please do and also a rough ideal on cost in £££ will be much appreciated.

thanks
scott

also i dnt mind spending between £200-£300 on some mods, mite also be able 2 sqeeze enough for a new final drive.

if i was you i w ouldnt bother.from what i see only top quality partswork and only give minimal gains.i would concentrate on performing service jobs such as valve clearance ignition timing cleaning gauze in vtec solenoid making sure your exhaust is perfect good plugs leads etc etc.maybe fit get a 4.785 final drive or 4.9 and just keep your cash til you can get a b18.at least with the fd you still have it when you change your engine.ive been down this road with manifolds decats cat backs and for the money you spend you dont get sfa for it.i could have my b18 re built and in at this stage only for the money ive pissed away.

thanks for the reply,
what are the best plugs and leads 2 get?
how do i go about cleaning the gauze in vtec solenoid? is this an easy diy job?
what kind of car garage will i want to use for the valve clearance? a tuning garage or a general everyday mechanic?

sorry for all the questions.

thanks
scott

just take out the solenoid there a gauze in there clean with brake cleaner just get general healthcheck.any mechanic should do the clearances

best plug?

The world's most powerful spark plug from Enerpulse

expensive as hell though. For most, it's best to just stick to the OE NGKs, esp. if you're not doing any racing or competing.

stock leads are more than adequate and many still consider them to be best as they do not produce excessive RF and they are extremely secure - something which cannot be said about most if not all aftermarket bits.... the technology cited in aftermarket stuff is only as good as the connection to the plug and the distributor.

do maintenance stuff if you haven't already done it.
-distributor cap and rotor.
-Fuel filter.
-valve adjustment
-motor mount inserts or new mounts
-shifter bushings

and yes...final drive. Though if you're having the FD removed, try and opt for a new clutch and light flywheel at the same time. Just don't forget to get a new pilot bearing and throw-out/release bearing too.

Insist on OEM high pressure Urea grease.

Flush the clutch fluid and consider replacing the stock rubber clutch line with a braided SS unit.

All these mods combined will augment the nature/DNA of the EK9 without overwhelming you and shell shocking your wallet.

Help it breathe for a start

Airbox c/w cold air feed or CAIK
Exhaust manifold
De-cat

Next thing I would say is a flywheel, reduce the rotating mass and interia load on the engine, due to the low torque from these engines it will improve the ability to rev. (personally I would suggest this before considering changing final drives)

better final drive, im not sure on specific gains but alot of people i meet at the track tell me they use j's racing final drives, not just in there b16b's but all there hondas..good luck =)

yeah and a final drive actually is a torque multiplier, so it would be WAY more effective than a flywheel alone.

If I had to choose between only a flywheel or a final drive, guess which I would go for?

:drive:

I found when i owned the B16B i made a nice difference from shedding some weight from the car, header/decat/flywheel and moddified my OEM box with spoon filter..

the gains were well IMO and they showed when testing.

But as shooter said, B18. I will stand by this mod strong. 27BHP for a total of £550. How can you go wrong providing you know the B18 your getting is good?

You cant really.
