Help with D1-Spec Quick Release Steering Boss?

Hi... I have joined up especially to ask about the D1-Spec Quick release steering systems that many people here appear to have used.

I have one simple question. Do you trust them... With your life??? Clearly you do so this might be a silly question, but I just wanted to hear it from someone who uses one.

I am in the process of buying a Rage buggy.. Its got no power steering and as such the steering is going to be direct and heavy... I want to put a removable wheel for security and this type would be ideal...

But if I am honest, I don't trust it.. I don't trust it because of all of the different 'copies' on Ebay, some of which sell for less than £20. Some even say "Sparco" on them, but are blatantly not. So I just worry about putting something like this on a car if its not 100% safe.

In contrast I can spend an extra £50 and buy a 'proper' quick release setup, but that requires welding and in truth, I don't trust that either.

Is there anything you can tell me which might re-assure me?

Could you imagine one ever failing? Are they solid (and I mean really solid).?

Thanks in advance for anything you can offer.

Jon

A lot of ppl use d1. If I wasn't so fussy with what kind of design I wanted I would of bought one. They are cheap but wouldn't know about their reliability etc. I have a 2.5 gen NRG quick release and I think it's amazing. Snaps on and off easily. Downside is it is pricey, luckily I managed to get a cheap one second hand. Would Defo recommend it

I am very impressed with the quality of my D1 spec hub. Feel's very solid and give's a forceful snap when locking into place. I would recommend it, bought it from Stew @ PPW.

I have had a few d1 spec quick releases and have never had any issues , no play at all and well made . got one in my eg at the moment .

Put a d1 into my old ek9 and never had any issues... Felt really solid..

Hi all, old thread, I'm looking at. D1 Spec 90mm item. But wanted to know is this a spacer or is it the complete steering wheel boss?

Much price difference with an NRG? Wouldn't be keen on D1 after seeing what there Wheel nuts are capable of
