Hi, my b16b is away being sleeved at the moment but the guy who's sleeving my block with dartin MID sleeves has got back to me saying when he fitted the sleeves and crank with ARP main studs that the crank is jamming, he's saying this happens now an then because of the ARP main studs is this true? Personally I think it's bull **** and he's warped the block whilsed installing the sleeves and he's trying to say it's going to cost me £500+VAT to fix!!! Can any one help me out here!?

Thanks in advance

It's probably because he's tightened the ARP bolts to the recommened SPEC which is tighter than OEM main bolt spec.

It is the ARP studs. Replace with OEM bolts and all will be fine.

So why is this only happening with mine? He's never came across it before? I know every engine is different but why the extra £500+VAT? Just doesn't sound right

I told you,

its because hes torqued them to 80ft lbs where as OEM mains only are torqued to 60ft lbs (hypothetically)

I know what your saying but surly he's fitted these before and torqued them to 80ft lbs so why is it just my engine thats had this problem? that's what I need to know before I go pay near £2000 for him to sleeve my block.

Plus he said he wouldn't advise O-rings because I'm going with 83mm bore? When darton, GE ect do O-rings at 83mm no bother

Ive heard/read about it a lot of times.
Have not a clue why he wants an extra 500 notes though.

Exactly an extra 500 plus he's not even been using my crank it's one he had lying about. Apparently he doesn't need mine. This is why I'm totally confused at what he's on about so I'm wanting some opinions before he gets any money off of me. Plus he doesn't have the machine to do whatever he's wanting to do so has to send it ells where. I spoke to another honda tuning company and they recon he's warped the block fitting the sleeves and that's why the crank is jamming when torqued up and that he's trying to make me pay for it by making up some bull ****

Try give Andy Baird @ Automek see what he says or Henry Roy mate :) Sure they would be more than happy to give you advice

Yeah I will need to go do that Logan. I was speaking to Robert reidy and he reconds that the guy mite have warped the block and is trying to get me to pay for his mistake

This is quite common with the sleeving process as you end up with a certain amount of core shift as so much material is removed from the block, the mains will need align honing hence the extra £500 as it's an expensive process, I don't mean to put a downer on things but this is why I used someone who had sleeved many honda blocks (Laskey Racing) and no one in this country.
