Hi guys,

I got a problem thats driving me crazy. For the last 2 weeks now, when i am changing gears it feels really stiff like i have to put effort into changing my gears.

Was using castrol synthetic...but tha was starting t thin out so i just put in Royal Purple...but its still the same way. I need to know if anyone else had this problem or what i would need to fix the problem.

The gears arent crunching or anyting jus gotta put effort to shift.

Help please!!

What castrol fluid are you using exactly ?

If you don't have a fancy lsd I would recommend you to get the honda oem tranmission fluid or if you can get it in your country you can try penzoil synchromesh

Anyways, I recommend you to wait until you read other member opinions.. :)

when i first got my 9 i changed the clutch and i filled my box with castrol oil . and oh dear the gear were as stiff as hell . drained and changed to honda mtf then did this again 100 miles later to make sure it was well cleaned out and gears felt like new again . very easy to shift and no notches etc

When i poured out the Castrol it was like water and really black and i had only changed it mid 2009...so I only put in the Royal Purple like yesterday. So i take it the best thing for me to do then is to drive around with this in for a while and see if I could get the genuine fluid? I was just hoping I didn’t have to get cones or syncros or anything internal. I will drive with this for another 2 weeks or so n drain it by then I would have the genuine oil n I will let ya all guys know the out come….Thanks.

Hey guys…ok got in genuine fluid now and its no different….I was told that I may have to change the syncros in the tranny…anybody knows what these look like or have a part number? Or better yet a pic…lol. I have no clue what they look like or where I going get them from.

Our Honda dealer doesnot deal with EK9 and I would more than likely have to order them from Japan.

He was just cheking mate its the easiest possible option thats all as it sounds exactly like the problem I had after installing my short shifter but that was my fault as I overtightened the bolt through the base of the shifter. But as you say no one has worked on that cant be that. Might be worth taking a quick peek at the shifter assembly just incase something is wrong there though.

As for MTF, Honda will have drums of it in their workshop - I often turn up with an empty oil container and just ask if they can fill it up for me. A small backhander usually does the job...

I know... I hope he doesnt take it the wrong way...its only now u said that i read it over n how it must have come across but it wasnt meant to be sarcastic or anything.

One of my boys however is checking the bushing in the shifter just in case but I checking around for Syncros as well just in case as I was advised that it maybe part of the problem as well...

When the car is parked and it is cold...it works fine...it only stiffens after i run it hard without even changing gears...then i get it from the time im backing down...

i changed out the master cylinder kit and got a slave cylinder kit and changed both...and its alot better. going to change my cluth now too cause the clutch release bearing seems to be going.
