*Frost White EK4* From the start.

Since then,
I have removed sound deadening from rear.
Painted calipers white.
Fitted HEKO wind deflectors.
Fitted Square front number plate & bracket.
And started to tidy up engine bay. (stripped rocker cover down for paint)

Here's how she stands now.

With winter wheels on, just before Christmas.

Another update:
Attended Japfest at the weekend, great show as always, saw you guys on the stand, but missed your track action as an r34 caught on fire in front of me at the same time.

Anyway, I purchased a few items from the Tegiwa stand, I didn't intend to buy all of these bits in one go but at those prices, I couldn't not...

Here's what I ended up with:

So i had a bit of a play yesterday and fitted most of the bits and gave her a service......

Here's a few snaps.....

I did notice however that the brake stopper is provided with a red washer to spread load out on the master cylinder, but the way its been designed means that there's not enough space for it? I have to file off a few mm to get it to fit.

Very nice work mate, bit of a transformation really..

Love the look of it now..

any more planned ???

Thanks mate...

Yeh the plan next is to book some tracktime, Im looking at a cheap novice day at Brands on 2nd June with club MSV.

After this I think Brake upgrade, The miester R 286mm conversion looks like good value.

I have MG ZR 282 calipers on my EK4, can't rate them enough mate.. if you can find a set go for it. much cheaper than the mesiter kit and works just as well. i mean what is 4mm lol...

have fun on your trackday mate, car is nicely setup for some track work now..

Other thing i thought would look good on your car... Spolier tilted...
heres a link to a write up a did http://www.ek9.org/forum/interior-exterior/35113-how-tilt-stock-ek-spolier-pic-heavy.html, i think it would give a nice touch to the car..

Nice idea, I think that's got to be done, must admit I've always hated how the spoiler brings down the roof line like it does, yet I don't want an ek9 wing, and also not willing to pay for a spoon duckbill, so sounds like a good option.

Did a track day at Brands Hatch.

Was a great day, learn so much more about the balance and driving characteristics of the car. The standard brakes faded quite badly so I found myself towards the end of the session heavily toe and heeling to get as much engine braking in as I could to slow me down.

On the whole, very impressed with how the car performed on the day. I went with a friend in a JRSC DC5 and it held up pretty well against him, expect on the straights of course.

I did have a bit of a spin though :(

Came off the home straight and lost the back end mid corner...ended up in the gravel sideways at 70ish :/
2 reasons why this happened....
1) I was going to hard too soon....think it was only 1 lap into that session!
2) cheap Tyre gauge meant pressure was much lower then I thought.

Anyway the result was the Tyre popped off the rim, I had to get a lift back to the pits on the safety e92 M3 :) and I had to subsequently change my Tyre to spare wheel. I took it soon after down to a local garage where they inspected it, clean it all out for me and re fitted the tyre.....good to go for the afternoon!!!

It did however scratch up the rim and take a bit off the rim.......it didn't effect the structure as such...just aesthetic.

Tegiwa Aluminium nuts held up ok during this indecent.....however I soon sold these and put my OEM ones back on.

Nice transformation and nice parts aswell! Think i might treat myself to some tegiwa struts!! :))

Nearly 2 years on, and I will be bringing this build thread back from the dead very soon!!

Car is getting a new heart this weekend :))))

From standard to modification thats one good looking ek4 mate!

Going to bring this thread up to speed in order of how things were done so here we go..

Engine mounts were past their best, particularly the torque mount and main rear mount (as they take most of the rocking forces)

So bought some ES inserts, but then soon realised whats the point!! I just needed new mounts So I bought some Oem ones off Tegiwa and set about DIY solidifying them!!!

Old ones were hashed.

Drew around these in order to make a fitted side panel.

Laminated them in an attempt to stop them to sticking to the mounts once they had been filled.

Fitted the cut-outs, and sealed up with duck tape.

Filled with Tiger seal / Black Mastic which is just Polyurethane about 60-70a hardness.

Done!

As you can imagine, these made a noticeable difference.

Next Up.....

I purchase a complete MGZS180 rear 260mm brake setup. The whole lot was all brand new Lucas stuff.... But after being on my car for a couple of month the typical rust around the hub was getting on my nerves, so I whipped them off and applied some VHT.

And also around this time, did a bit of a spoiler tilt. Nothing major, just level the roof line off a bit as I don't like the way the standard one slopes down.

I used some rubber grommet things I had lying about....did the trick.

Original

After..

The Bigger Update...

So since around October 2011 I had discovered the original engine was starting to use up more oil and was smoking a little out the back :( It was on about 135k around this point......

Fast forward 1.5years! and I had just been driving very considerately and keeping the oil topped up. Yes it had continued to get worse over time. To a stage that I would top it up to the Maximum on a Sunday....drive under 3k all week (circa 200miles) and it would be at the minimum, or maybe lower...which equates to 1 litre loss per 200 miles.

Needless to say I wasn't using expensive engine oil.

I was just really lazy at getting the car sorted. But once i finished Uni in Jul 2012 I quickly found a job working as a CAD technician for and Exhaust and Catalyst Manufacturer... This meant money :) and therefore meant I would get off my arse and sort and new engine out....

Yeh I did think about a b18/b20/k20. But I was enjoying my money and I didn't want to waste it all on the car believe it or not. If I was to spend a couple of K, then I would have preferred to buy a newer cat altogether.

My true passion is engineering, efficiency and most all driving. So all I really wanted was to build this one myself, with maybe a little extra power. But something which wouldn't cost a fortune and would be reliable enough to track for many years to come. I was more worried about building something to hone my driving skills and have fun as appose to try and win brownie points with an impressive spec.

So in Nov 2012 fellow mate Joe on here buys Wazers old b19/20. He put his b16a2 up for sale at a good price so I had it off him!

Engine spec was:

JDM ITR cams & valve train
New ARP head studs
New oem head gasket, cambelt, water pump and stem seals.
95k of usage.

He did say that since he had recently installed the above, the car was smoking. This was possibly down to the stems not sealing correctly, or the bores were glazed as his had been off the road for ages and had been started on and off.

Didnt matter to me as I was planning a full rebuild :)

***********************************************************************

Rebuild Plans

Head
Recondition head, maybe a skim.
New oem Stem seals/HG/all new Seals.

Block
Full inspection of Crank/Bores/Oil Pump etc.
ACL duraglide bearings
Oem or equivalent piston rings
Sump baffles
Hone
All new gaskets

General
Fit a ITR inlet manifold and 62mm throttle body which I already have.
Thermal intake gaskets
New Thermostat
Aluminium thicker Radiator

Started purchasing parts for the Build.

Thankyou to Simauto/Tegiwa/Vtec performance/RacingXS/JapServiceParts for majority of the parts for the rebuild.

And to Banda Engineering in Portsmouth for their work.

Cambelt side engine mount needed replacing as when I went to fit a torque damper a while ago, the nuts just spun around on the threads and would tighten or loosen.. So I though meh, Il just get a replacement.

Thanks to Vtec Performance for an easy sell, good price, and a mint mount!
