I finally took the plunge and bought an EK9! I had a EP3 a few years ago, and while it was a nice car, always felt a bit lifeless - mainly due to the stupid electronic power steering.

Anyway, I took the plunge and headed over to Ireland at the weekend to look at some cars. 1st one I looked at - it was cheap, (he would have taken 3900 euro, or about £3300) but was pretty tatty - some dents/scratches. Steering column was all crooked where someone had broken into it. Clutch release bearing also sounded like it was one its way out. The guy was making out like it was a cheap fix, and while the part is maybe only £30, the labour would be considerably more. Anyhow, I just didn't sit right with me, so I left it. I then drove 3 hours to see another one near Dublin.

Instantly was much more impressed. Body work was pretty tidy. Small bit of bubbling round one of the arches but didn't look too bad. Otherwise, nice condition. It's got some tasty mods on it, which I'm thinking about changing as it's a bit hardcore for a daily drive.

A quick spec list :
1.8 DC2 engine, mapped on neptune ecu (launch control at 4k rpm, shift light at 9k rpm)
ogura race clutch
68mm throttle body (port matched)
skunk2 intake manifold
aluminum rad
5zigen Pro racer a spec system - true 2.5" from manifold back
5zigen manifold (heat wrapped)
Lowered on Tein coilovers

All I can say is, it bloody shifts when you floor it! Got a few things I want to change out and a few little things that need ironing out, but I'll save those questions for another forum post. Will get some pics up soon :D

Cheers
Mike

Welcome to the forum bud; can't wait for the pictures.

A question you might hear a lot in this thread, so might as well ask first; how do you find it compared to the EP? ;)

Welcome mate! Always great getting a new car that you really like :)

Cheers guys, I'll get some pics up once it stop raining and I actually have a chance to wash it. Yes it's the B18C out of the teg. I'm not sure about the gearbox. It's definitely not running standard Final drive. Can't really remember, but at about 70 on the motorway it was reving at about 4200 rpm..... 4.7 fd? at 80 it was more like 5k something! Not really the best on fuel lol.

Hard to compare to an ep3, mainly because this one is not standard so it's not really a fair comparison. One thing that I HATED on the EP3 was the steering, totally lifeless at speed and really hard to feel what the front end was doing. The EK9 feels much more alive and feels every bit as fast as the ep3. Cam change over is much more aggressive - feels faster, whether it is or not, I'm not sure......Might be a tad due to the ek9 weighing less.

Anyway, just waiting on the DVLA to send me forms so I can register it and get driving :)

Really want to see some pics on this, maybe I seen it on Irish Honda forums,ek9 over here is cheaper than UK,I say more people will start coming over to buy one

sounds like a good buy, congrats :)

Welcome dude, do you go to lakeside on saturday nights if you do i may bump into you:nice:

What an awesome feeling. I remember the day I bought my b18c ek9. Health to enjoy mate. Theres a very good mapper in dublin who uses neptune software, so I'd be confident its a good going one!!
