I will be getting a new clutch + lightened flywheel fitted this weekend and wanted to know which one would be recommended between the Exedy stage1 or Exedyoem clutch.

Do they have the same feel?
Is the stage1 only really necessary if the car is highly modified for big power gains over stock?

I dont recomend the stg1 m8, you may be lucky and not get judder but if you do...like mine & some others, you will be tearing your hair out in frustration .
Not much difference feel wise, its a touch firmer but barley noticeable. Standard clutch is very good imo unless you have big mods or really abuse it on track, go for the AP unit if you must upgrade (£240ish), Teg owners have only good things to say about it.

this really depends on your intended usage.

When I was younger, I was hell bent on putting the most hardcore race parts on my car just to drive on the street because it was "cool."

So after I managed to rattle myself senseless and render my hearing useless...I was left to fix all the squeaks and replace those race parts with something more sensible.

You must ask yourself what you primarily use your car for. If it doesn't have a "massive 30whp" increase (nearly 50bhp) you ought to just opt for the OEM.

Of course, something must have rattled loose in my head back then...since I drive with a carbon clutch now on the street. There is nothing quite like the instantaneous nature in which it engages at WOT that makes spirited driving so much more enjoyable. A full face clutch just seems so sloppy to me now.

A stage II 3 puck Exedy thick disc will judder a bit during the first 500miles (break-in period), but it is completely acceptable and livable thereafter.

The unit below is an ATS carbon 1300kg Prospec

Carbon disc 0.50kg... simply astounding response is what I can say and is still slippable and usable on a daily basis.

But at $1300USD (includes proprietary chromoly flywheel @ 8lbs) it's not for everyone.

The center of the disc is a curious yet innovative floating arrangement. I believe this to be part of the reason why its engagement is smooth despite its 3-puck orientation. It allows a degree of flex over a solid hub.

i use the exedy stage 1 in mine as well as 3 of my mates and dont get any sort of shudder at all like some people say . only reason we put them in was because were quite harsh on our clutch at our 1/4 mile . but if its for daily drive mainly i would opt for the exedy oem clutch

cheers---john

i love carbon clutches :) i drove an evo with one, it was beautiful and very streetable.

Went for the Oem clutch and lightened flywheel in the end. Very noticable difference too so I'm happy :nice:

Thanks for the replies.

did you notice quite a difference with the lightened flywheel yeah ? was thinkin of puttin one in when my final drive is bein fitted.

lightened flywheel is very noticeable... imo, lighter is better. Those who say drivability suffers...well...don't know how to drive... :p

lies, on a short stroke motor with an already light rotating assembly, no power steering or ac drag a light flywheel does make normal driving annoying imo, i have an 8lb and its a bit jerky, sure i can make it not be jerky but i have to shift all fast and im fat and lazy  so i guess yeah, you have to know how to drive it.

guess you just had to solidify my point... :p

Just like installing a set of coilovers and lowering your car. You know damn right you're not going to be able to drive it like you once did with stock suspension and be able to just "fly" over bumps and dips... :drive:

But it does drive nicer overall right? :D

Well I can honestly say I have noticed no negative effects of the flywheel or clutch for that matter. Idling is fine, no judder etc

The clutch feels slightly lighter and much smoother. Throttle response has improved due to flywheel and the car definately revs up faster.

What has suprised me is that it feels as though I can match revs more smoothly when changing gear. I thought this would have been more difficult due to the lightened flywheel and the revs dropping off quickly.

This is my most noticable mod so far and I recommend for sure:)
Next stop: Regamaster wheels !:nice:

The supplied parts +fitting was done by Tegiwa Imports here within a couple of hours while I waited Integra DC2 :: Log in
