EP3 VS EK9 decisions decisions

I agree that for a civic hatch, 17's are bigger than normal and they are not good in handling at high speeds and they also "eat" a lot of torque, but they weight only 6.6kg!! :wow: The 15's stock EK9 weight more but they provide better handling for this car.
Since you want to get rid of them and get a set of 15's, and if you need performance, then I suggest the following: Sell them and get a set of the same brand in 15".
The rims you have cost around $2400 new without the tires. If your tires are in good shape, you can ask for $2000 without a thought. Then, with this money you get the 15" + tires and you will feel huge difference not only because they weight only 4.5 kg but also because of their diameter. I had once these wheels and they were awesome!! :D You just can't compare them with stock EK9 wheels mate!

i want to keep both standard and the 17's, i had a set of 15inch te37 's on my last ek9 its the one in the avatar,i also used to have a set of 16's on my rev3 mr2 turbo.:)

Ep3 looks like a shoe. I have been thinking of getting a DC5 after I sell the CTR, but I must refrain.

jdm ep3 made in Japan...NOT swindon:angry:

it would be stupid shipping the whole car from UK to asia...wots the point if they do them better in jap...

Erm - why do you think there is a Union Jack badge on the back of a JDM EP3???

"barry|85" u made me look into it! :D my BAD "starry" ur correct ALL EP3's R are made in swindon... however in Japan they do carry out substantial changes to it.:nerv:

In 2001 Honda introduced the next generation of the Civic Type R (EP3) as a unique 3 door hatchback to the UK market, which was manufactured in Swindon, England. This later UK market Civic Type R features a 197hp 2.0L i-VTEC engine (K20A) and the regular Type R treatment of seam welding, close ratio transmission and uprated brakes, but does not include some of the other higher-end features, such as the helical LSD and Recaro race-seats, that were standard in the previous generation. This however, does not pertain to the JDM version of the EP3 (which is also manufactured in Swindon, but shipped to Japan for finishing touches), which retains the highly renowned helical LSD similar to that of the EK9. Other differences include more track-oriented chassis and undercarriage settings as compared to the UK market model, as well as a 215ps engine with different camshafts and ECU programming. The UK market model is less focused with more relaxed gear ratios and some high rpm horse power traded for low rpm torque. :D

i was in a similar situation 4 months ago.
i have owned a couple of jordans, and a vti, and was considering an ek9,ep3,jdmep3,jdmdc2 and a dc5.
i managed to test drive all of them, and overall my choice is indeed th EK9 :)
i have recently recieved mine after a long long wait, and i must say, everytime i get in it, it puts a smile on my face. I t is easily the best ctr ever made, and very modern imo. of course is raw, lightweight etc, but, having a black 2000 rx model, includes better centre console. the whole car imo is 10/10.
best advice i can give is test drive all the cars that are in your budget... the answer will come to you in due time

yo tis is ek9.org.........guess ur asking a ques that u noe the ans oredi rite??
anyway EP3 is more not-so-aggressive and more handling well than ek9(oem chasis and suspension) but the K20A surely doesn't perform well enough than B16B or 18C in track, but higher displacement and horsepower plus torque realli makes it the winner to ek9 in terms of black and white. But the truth is that on touge(hill road) and track, EK9 are still the favourable (civic class/1.6class) one.....i'm sure those that owns and runs with EK9 knows y...................

thanks for ur replies fellas keep em coming

If you still like the EK body shape then EK9 is the way to go. I personally like the EK9's interior more than the EP3. EP3 also sits higher and body is taller, but looks like a shoe i have to agree.

Basically I nvr liked the Ep3 until i saw the FN2, it now looks pretty good in sliver and lowered with Rays wheels...

But if you want quality etc, then get FN2.
If you like raw performance, get EK9,
If you like both then EP3.

Ep3 does have a K20A don't forget, and if you have acess to tuners for that engine then why not.

This video is something not all B-series can do. Especially B16B.

Easy. The ek9's supsension has a better design to it, the car is much lighter and nimbler, LSD, and nicer seats. The ek9 looks a hell of a lot better as well, especiallly the 99-00 version. The ep3 on the other hand has been quoted as a "pregnant roller skate."
Because of its light weight, great suspension (not some mcphearson strut) and engine swap potential (k20a,k24-k20 hybrid, any combo of big block NA and turbo b-series, H22), the car overall has so much more potential.
Not to mention that there are more aftermarket parts and options for an EK than an EP3.
Jugbugz is that a stock ep3 beating that evo?
Anyone can post video's of modified civics street racing,
here's an example of some ek potential-

Woah! you can see the brake discs going red when they slow down... :D But that EK was turbo'd, bahhhh N/A has more creditbility Especially if you beat an EVO!!!!

Yeh, all EP3's are modified and delimited, they hit 270kmph with 2.0L no probs LOL I only wish my B16B could do that...

EP3 modified can be pretty fast because of the K20A... SPOON's K20A has just been released and has report to be very strong. Some F20C parts were used too.

Installing a K20A into an EK9 can drive you nuts! Especially when i found out that you'll need some donor parts from a EG6 civic(steering bar etc etc) and EP3 CTR for the A/C.

But, anyway, it all comes down to your feeling, do these following;

SIT in the car,
DRIVE the car,
GET out from the car,

then let your feelings decide... hehehe:D

starry: FN2 is UK CTR 2007 model and FD2 is JDM CTR 2007. Why not think about installing a K20A into your current ride? Stock 13.5secs 1/4mile lol

1 question which engine is in this model? K20A , K20A2 , K20A3 the A3 is I-Vtec only on the Intake Side !!!!!!! Hope you all knew this! Unless the JDM version was different?:thanks:

hmmm, I'm not too sure about i-vtec, as long as it's from an integra R or civic R... hehehe

i dont wanna do a transplant mainly beacasue of the cost. And the brakes can not handle the car at the mo let alone with a power upgrade plus its a pre facelift ek4 so i will want to change the interior, lights etc soon as they look dated

I dont bother with 1/4 mile times i prefer 0-60 im on 7.3 secs now with 17" heavy alloys, but could prob get 7 dead if i go back to lighter nimble 15"s.
thanks but transplant is out of the question

Ek9 EK9 EK9

all the way mate i was getting a 9 but insureance killed me so went for an integra till i get my NCB up.

i drove the EP3 to see what it was like and the integra was miles better it is harsher as is the ek9 u want it to be harsh and brutal

you have to go for the LSD the EP3 lacks it and it makes all the difference

good luck mate
