I'm going to wade in here. Mods please clean up this thread once this argument has settled, Not fair on Chris.
vti2010- You got a b18'd EK9 Shell with a welded in cage for around the £3k mark. This was at a time when average standard EK9's were still going £6K. Your argument is therefore invalid. The shell was spotless and the cage was worth a fair bit. Breaking that car would probably of made your money back or spending money on an engine rebuild and it would've still been a bargain.
The engine spun a bearing. Dan never opened up the engine to look at it himself. These things happen. There are 2 detailed build threads, still on this forum prior to you buying it with that engine in there. They are impressive threads and the two previous owners spent a lot.
Dan is not a mechanic, he is a car enthusiast. He drove the car all of 20 miles when he owned it. How is he to know there is an oil burning issue?
Chris: Dan bought your EP3 off a friend and was unknowingly sold a car with problems. Dan and I took the car to Automek (Andrew Baird) to get checked over. What this guy doesn't know about Honda's isn't worth knowing and he will look after any car he has in like it is his own. The car was already for sale at this point and I believe you were interested. Automek spotted the problems and Dan paid for the important repairs prior to selling the car.
Second hand cars are bought as seen. I understand that there is a responsibility from the seller to be honest. I do not think Dan has been dishonest.
Enjoy your project Chris.
