Im looking to continue servicing my ep3 and replace some pulleys/belts.
Wanted to confirm the bottom pulley on the drivers side, is that the idler pulley and whats the top pulley?
Should i replace both pulleys and all belts?

http://japserviceparts.co.uk/produc...pe-r-01-on/alternator-and-steering-belts.html

Looking at this link should i get both the genuine honda idler pulley and tensioner pulley or opt for the gates/ntn/koyo?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If yours physically look ok but you just want piece of mind then You may as well just buy the bearings,
they are real easy to knock out of your original idler and tensioner and replace.

My bottom pulley is ever so slightly making a rattle. I dont mind replacing everything mate rather take precautions. What would i need for everthing from the link i provided?
Thanks pal

When you say bottom do you mean the bottom of the top 2 (blue arrow) or the actual bottom pulley?(red)

I've known the outer ring to break away from the rubber on the bottom pulleys before and rattle against the casings

Thats the one the red one mate whats it called? That pic is brilliant thanks.

That's a crankshaft pulley. Also acts as a harmonic balancer(basically cancels out vibration in the engine)
If your replacing it yourself your likely to need a tool to hold the pulley still whilst you undo the bolt.

I dont do any work on my cars im not competant enough leave it to the professionals lol.
So left my keys with a local mechanic today to check out the car on my drive whilst i was at work.
He isnt sure which pulley the rattling noise is coming from but is defo the top or bottom pulley, his advice is to tow it to him to check it out properly and not drive it in case anything gets worse.

On the crankshaft pulley the outer ring can come away from the centre where the metal is joined to the rubber, try grabbing hold of it and moving it side to side to see if it moves

I will check this and update with progress.
Thanks again mate.

My brothers ep3 had a funky noise that was the top pulley.
Diagnosed with a screwdriver-stethoscope. If you have a screwdriver then place the pointy end on the bolt or something near the pulley(engine running) then put your ear to handle end. You should hear the noise get louder, then to double check move the screwdriver further away from the pulley and check it again. Sound should go quiet the further away you are.

Thanks for this mate, will update once i get time to get everything sorted.

Also im tempted to buy all genuine honda alternator serpantine belt, alternator belt idler pulley and alternator belt tensioner pulley as theres a sale on at the minute and and thought replace everything hoping its not the crank pulley!

I think I've got a spare k20 bottom pulley if you need one.

Just got a call mechanic is saying its the top tensioner pulley that needs replacing.
So hopefully car should be sorted mid next week. Big relief its nothing major just hope nothing else screws up down the line.
