HI all, as some of you may know, im form Lima Peru, bought my ek9 a couple of months ago, here is the thing, still dont know why, but the car changed like 3 or 4 owners in 6 months before it got to me, i took it to a mechanic workshop and verified that the cams where not CTR cams (measuring them), but were b16a cams, so i bought ITR '96 cams (because they were available here), now i took it to a mechanic workshop where most fine tunned honda users take theirs (supposedly the best in town) and he ran my car, the results, my car doesnt run like a CTR... ( he and i fell the car at low rpm {<4000rpm} too heavy) he told me maybe my headers (it came to me with JASMA certified b16a2 4-2-1 header) might be something to start changing, so im planning to buy a new header (still cant figure out which one 4-2-1 or 4-1 and which brand :: with 2.5" collector :: ) and mugen head gasket for starters, oh! and the piping (change it to 2.5" straight pipe)... so my question is: how can i recognize that all the pieces in my engine are ek9 CTR 2000? does crank, pistons, cams, valves, springs, etc has a printed code? (are there pics?) because im thinking into open the engine and check it completely, and of course start building the car i dream of.

I almos forget, what about LSD, how can i test and be sure theres the LSD? and the gearbox pinions are what they are supposed to be.

Ill apreciate very much your assistance.

Thanks in advance

Enrique

p.s: my ecu code is 37820-pct-J11, is that a ek9 CTR 2000 ecu? (ill open it to see the interior board too).

Damm thats not nice to hear... uve been sold an EK4!

U should notice if ur CTR has LSD by driving it, if iam right :nerv: however iam sure u will get ur answers here. . .

gearbox actually has LSD stamped on it, you can see it in the engine bay... Does v-tec kick in at 6-6200 rpm?? is there a blue label in engine bay with ek9 on it?

heres my engine bay, you can just see LSD on the gearbox

and heres an updated pic of my bay where you can see the blue plate which says something like E-EK9 then further down "Type R"

check the code on your engine block. b16b.
your gearbox will have lsd stamped on it.
if its a 2000 ek9 your chassis code wil say GF-EK9. check to see if the two chassis codes match

jack up the car with both front wheels off the ground and spin the wheel on one side, if the wheel on the other side spins aswell you have an lsd, if it doesnt you don't.

Thanks for your replys, yes the block has b16bXYZW... printed on, the head (if i done miss-remember) PR3-3, i have the blue label GF-EK9 (TYPE: TYPE R) and the gearbox printed with S4C next to LSD, and the VTEC opens at 6krpms (wich i feel kicks hard), yet as i never drove a VTI before hand cant tell... thats why some friends of mine says (and the mechanich confirms) its not running like an Type R, sadly theres no much ek9's in town (the others are being used for track competition), but on the streeets you can se ITR-DC2

So that's why i ask, to be 100% that all parts in the engine are ek9 2000 (maybe its just the exhaust blocked, cant tell).

Thanks in advance
Enrique

ps: here are two pics from the outside of my car and three of the engine (before placing the intake + filter )

Nothing better than buying a new car! Nothing to worry about! :blabla:

Theres nothing wrong with your headers, 4-1 and 2.5in exhaust will just make the lower rpms worse.

Your gearbox is CTR and you should have LSD.

ECU is correct for GF-EK9

You probally just got your cams stolen. ITR and CTR cams are identical except CTR exhaust or intake cam has slightly more duration.

Just give it a good service, oil, filter, fuel filter change etc etc and do a compression test. B16A and B16B have almost same power below 6000rpm. From what it sounds, I think you just got your cams stolen.

So, for my peace of mind, is there codes or any form of recognizing the parts?

You already have all the codes visibly. They can't change the valves and springs from B16A, that should be it.

You should've gotten some stg 1 cams instead.:nice:

jack up the car with both front wheels off the ground and spin the wheel on one side, if the wheel on the other side spins aswell you have an lsd, if it doesnt you don't.

But I thought that wouldnt work with the EK9 as its a viscous LSD? That should only work for clutch-LSDs...

Does the LSD wordings wear out after sometime? I dont see them on my gearbox anymore, only S4C.

edit: Just found out that it is actually a helical LSD. But its also a torque-sensitive type which does not lock without any power applied anyway?

my gearbox has the stamps faded. How can i tell if the gearbox is teh S4C with lsd?

you must put the car in gear when it is jacked up and then spin the wheels.

Otherwise the sure fire way to do it is to remove the axles.

.:FFS TechNet : LSD Check! :.

ellanosv: Your mechanic is trying to make a quick dollar if he doesn't perform all the necessary tests first such as a compression/leak down test.

stop changing all these parts to start - but it's good that you had the cams figured out.
