Good afternoon fellow ek9ers,

I have a question... i was reading a post regarding the lack of torque of the b16b, and in general this pasts days some friends of mine (Honda Racing Peru) were telling me that my (standard) b16b feels a bit slower in power, torque and VTEC "jump" than a 1.6VTI (with air filter, intake, headers and exhaust line), i cant tell that 'cause the last honda i had was a d15b3 and i havent tried a 1.6VTI... well, i have a general question: Has anyone of you compared your b16b with a 1.6VTI? Ill apreciatte your comments.

Best Regards

Enrique

if the vti comes with a b16a then yes i have compared, b16a is A LOT slower.

i have raced my stock type r against a mildly modded vti (b16a, header, exhaust & aem v2 thingy) , well we started sided by side, it ended with me 15-20 cars distance in front, he would have been completely out of site if any corners were involved:blabla::nice:

i have owned both with my friends currently driving modded ek4s atm.(full exhaust systems, plus induction etc.) my bro has also recentlybought a jordan. :)
the difference in balance and cornering speed and confidence is huge with regards to the type r and the vti.
also, with regards to speed, the ek9 is about 6 cars lengths different from 30 mph 2nd gear till the end of the 4th :) (both with similar mods)
your friend may say that the CAI/sri induction changeover from a b16a is more noticable, as induction enhances the noise, however, by no means is it more aggressive or as quick! also, remember induction kits can be put onto your b16b, then the tone will be even more agressive :p:)
my experience

Due to some money issues tomorrow or the next day im giving a manteinance including injectors and cylinders head cleaning to my car, expect to see a improvement, and this saturday im gonna try a b16a2 VTI and compare.

you should win by some distance m8.
nmake sure you tell us the result :)

stock wise the vti DOES NOT STAND A BLOODY CHANCE!!! :drive:

wow wow wow fellas
B16A2 crew here
right i only have a decat and J's racing backbox compromised by some stupid 17" 20kg alloys on my EK4,
I have raced 2 different 9s with decent mods including full exhausts, chipped (ecu remaps),cold air intakes, lower mileage and god knows what else.
handling, braking and on top end when the limiter has been taken off a B16B the B will pull my pants down particulalrly for handling.
BUT ive read ur comments and 1 of u has said something along the lines of 6 lenghts at 30mph in second gear. Well for a start if i change into 2nd before i hit 38 i would have wasted a gearchange cause i change into 2nd at 40mph,

Anyway when i raced this ek9 off the lights and up to 60 every single time i was in front till at least 60mph.
there is no way that an ek9 will pulls away like u guys make out so much to 40 there is not more than one cars length infront of my b16a2 till 40 MPH, and this is only really due to weight and the rawer kick the ek9 has.

Come on guys VTi's/B16A2s arnt so bad obviously the EK9 is the daddy, but vti's arnt as slugish as u lot make out, 2nd to the B16b they are probably one of the fastest fwd 1.6 to get to 60

b16a is a good motor with tons of potnetial its just 15-25hp down from a b16b but if you put one it a light car like a 92 civic hatch that thing will move pretty damn good!

im sure LSD plays a roll too...

woops... didnt mean to emphasize on the car lengths, however, the test i did was rolling from second at 30 till the end of forth (not drag racing to eliminate physical boundaries). did it today again and its 4 car lenghts for clarification. apologizes for exageration. and yes, the b16a is a great engine also!:) i've had 2 jordans and one ssb vti :) and recently pursuaded my bro to get a jordan :)

driver skill level also comes into play in these situations:nice:
so obv starry the bloke you were racing may have had an off day/generally bad driver as with ur mods your civic will not be doing 5.7-6.5 second 0-60's, not a dig at you before a ruck starts:nice::drive:

best ive got is 7.1 sec so yes driver skill played a part but when we raced from 2nd to fourth he was pulling but slowly again i think it came down to the driver.

you da man!! so many people would have bitten at that post i made, hats off to you:nice:

i have beat so many higher powered 4wd cars in my ek9 just for better skill and alot of bottle LOL

Well all i can say is aaaaaaaaarrrrrrgggghh - my b16a needs to be faster!!!

I've never directly raced a 9 but there was an occasion where i tried to noise one up on the M8 at glasgow - he played me and never went for it. I got in front and slowed down and he absolutely bombed passed me and all i can say is jeez he didnt half accelerate - and if i'd raced him god knows what would have happened.

I'm all for Vti's (as i have one myself) but there is a big diff between them biggest being:

Weight
More HP 15-25 (VTi or SiR)
LSD

But you can always modify your b16a to a good level!

My mate has a VTi-s and i dont know why but top end its nothing like my VTi - I do have a full exhaust system (4-1, de-cat, cat back) but nothing much more! Should i be destroying him the way i do?

what mods does your ek4 have barry? the mani and decat make themost difference from your mods :)
LSD allows quicker launch and better cornering/handling, with more power and a higher rev limiter, the 9 shows the difference.
ek9 is quick as said, but the ek4 is also a very capable car!!:)

I had A jap import sir2 eg6 civic. from driving both I can honestly say that the ek9 will be ahead of the eg6 from word go. when vtec engages on the b16a gradually the power keeps coming but on the b16b in the ek9's when vtec comes in its very aggresive:drive: and the close ratio gearbox on the ek9keeps the engine pulling hard when shifting up. but by no means am I saying the sir/vti's are slow especially when in such A lite car as the eg6:D
