EK9 up against a Mondeo ST24

just looked at a few of these mondeos on youtube and they seem to pull a little better than an ek9 but around 100mph they all seemed to really die so id reckon they be fairly equal but ek9 would beat it with V-TEC !!
( st24 have 204 bhp )

Dude do they really perform that well? I have a 1.4 civic and I know it wouldn't even pull me outta bed.My point is lets say oneself is driving down the motor way and some smug dude comes up behind you in lets say a BMW 320d. Right up your ass, drop it too 3rd gear hit the vtec and pull away do cars of this spec stand any chance on catching you? Another e.g would be lets say a mercedes E200 Kompressor. I think there about 182bhp

EK9's ARE fast cars.

A fast car to me it not just about straight line speed, but how it performs in the corners and the speed it carrys through the corners.

Straight line speed though, EK9 aint all that.

The B16b is sluggish past 65MPH, it dosn't pull as hard. I'm talking stock for stock here.

Are people still discussing this? A ST24 is an awful car, even Ford enthusiasts will tell you that, an EK9 will be faster in a straight line, through bends, on a strip or on the track.

If you want to find a Ford that will be equal competition to an EK9, try a 200bhp Escort RST or even a 250bhp Focus RS.....that will match the Ek9 on all fronts.

OK, from what I understand, that thing is the same car as a Ford Contour SVT in the US (US Contour = Worldwide Mondeo, US SVT has 2.5L Yamaha V6 with 200HP, 170ft-lbs TQ, so I'm assuming it's the same thing). Looking at the specs I have in front of me, the EK9 would annihilate it. It doesn't have much torque since it's a still a relatively low displacement motor. Plus the 800+ lbs of extra weight practically cancel out the torque advantage. The EK9 also has ridiculously short gearing to help it out.

Back when I was still retarded and raced on the street like a dipshit, I raced a Pontiac G6 GTP which has a larger 3.6L motor with 252HP and 251TQ. That car weighs only 300lbs more than the Contour SVT/Mondeo ST24. My car is a USDM Civic CX (factory curb weight 2222lbs) with a USDM B16A2 engine swap with Intake, exhaust, and lightweight flywheel (factory 160HP, 111TQ, probably 165 HP with mods, Dyno'd 148 to the wheels). My Civic left that G6 like it was nothing. It was at a dead stop and I wasn't even intending to race this goober when I took off (I just started off a little quick cause I was late for work, he musta thought I was trying to race him). I didn't even wind out first, I started giving it major gas in 2nd.

Also, a 95 Maxima is similar to a Contour SVT specs wise. 100lbs lighter, 10 less HP but 30 more TQ than the Contour. Dusted one them too.

iirc its the st200 which has 204, the st24 has 170,

but i think the st200 is a uprated version of the st24, i could be wrong though.

And I just looked up the specs to the UK ST24 (which is appears to be equivalent to the US 2000 Contour SE Sport). Yeah it's even lower spec than the Contour SVT so yeah, the EK9 would decimate it. 0-60 on the US Contour SE Sport is 8.5 seconds.

ATR would win easily I reckon. The gearing, it's lighter, 220hp vs 170hp.

i have had a play with a ST but not sure if it was a 220 or just the 24. off a roundabout it was neck and neck, but my car wasnt running at its best and was missing. the 2.5 v6 will pull quite well up to a good 130 tho, and go all the way to 150ish. i have driven 1 ages ago and the are fairly quick, but fun factor they are pants! if you plan to race 1, do it in the corners!

it's an easy win for the ek9 the st24's 2.5 v6 is lazy and slow

with work they can hit 200bhp (i.e. the st200) but their just generally slow

admittedly with a pair of turbo's on the side and the relevant work they can be pretty damn quick (the later 3.0 version powers the noble gto 3r in this guise but the reality is theres a handful of twin turbo'd mondy st24's and ford cougar v6's and if it was you'd know about it)

also just to clarify
mk1 mondy is an st24 2.5 v6 170bhp
mk2 mondy st200 200bhp 2.5 v6
mk3 mondy st220 220bhp 3.0 v6

of these only the st220 may give you some trouble but certainly not from a standing start

but the one thats down the street from me is a st24, and its a mark 2 :S

My friends EK4 raced one "private area" of course. And pissed all over it, owned it infact.

There's no comparison between the two, EK9 is in a totally different league. ;)

i raced one a while back in my mk5 escort rs2000 and i was disappointed with how slow it was. used to be really into my fords and as mentioned its really just a cruiser for motorways

A guy from my work has a mondy st220 220bhp...and was always Ripping into my Jordan....and always wanted to race me!!! several weeks went past and i Saw him out in it....and gave into Temptation!!! was a close race...but after 100-110 he pulled away about 1-2 car lengths!!! 100-110 KPH of course :D

Are you for real ,your ek9 must be knackered !the B16B (ek9) should rage up to 100 mph then it i'll start to slow off a bit ,cant believe a st24 and a ek9 are being talked about in the same sentence !st24's are shite simple as lol

ive beaten them before in the Ek4 you will wipe the floor with this ugly thing lol
