hi,
im about to start a project. Its gonna be a k swap and im using it for tracks. Is it better to get a ek9 chasis or a ek3 chasis to start with(Price is way different).I tested both and the ek9 seems to be better than ek3 but what makes the ek9 so stiff and stable compared to the ek3.This is the first step and its the most crucial part.I want a car than can track than a straight line hero.Balance is important. Is it true that the k20a is much heavier than the b16b in total weight. Can anyone shed some light?I already own a jdm dc2r so b18 is not considered. Is there anyway to modify the ek3 chasis to be like the ek9?thanks

Just start with the EK9, no point starting with something substandard then working to make it as good as something you could have bought anyway. In addition to the seam welding there are many more differences that we probably don't even know about. Lots of parts of have been reinforced, lots lightened.

Start with the best possible base. :nice:

The reason why EK9 chassis is so stiff is that it is seam welded all way round. You could do the same with EK3 or EJ9 - the chassis in these 2 is the same, but at the end it may (and probably will) cost more than getting an EK9 chassis. There are other differences too, EK9 chassis is strengtened in places for increased rigidity. I think you can hardly do better job stiffening up EK3 chassis than what Honda did in the case of EK9.

As said ek9 chassis is seam welded... I'd go ek9 every time especially for k swap. Also I think the k20 itself weighs less than b series but it's the k box which weighs more, could be wrong tho. Also I'm sure the k20 sits further back than b series when k swapped. I'm sure someone can confirm...

"EK9 as it is made for track racing" quoted frome Gran Turismo Honda EK9 car description! =D

ek3...its a jap

And also ukdm (ls...1.5i sohc vtec)

But in all fairness...I'd start with ek9 chassis. I'm sure there are some breaking companies out there that'll have some shells

should i start with the ek3 chasis i already have or opt for the ek9 chasis? If anyone have experience in this 2 chasis with a k swapp pls show me the light...

You have all the info you need above, what else you would like to know? Putting k series into ek3 or ek9 will be exactly the same. As for the chassis you can spend iloads of money trying to make the ek3 as good as the 9 or you can save yourself the hassle and a fair bit of cash and buy a clean ek9 chassis. As simple as that! :))

buy yourself a welder and seam weld the chassis, then weld your own chassis bracing in, and do a better job than honda, then youll have a k20, and a custom chassis,

or buy ek3/4 and get a cage fitted, wont get any stiffer than a weld in chassis,

or if u have the budget for a k20 swap....buy a car thats faster than an ek9 anyway.

for me this seems to be a pointless thread , obv you are going to pick an ek9 chassis over an ek2,3,4 :nono:

An Ek9 shell as stated will be the better option, and will be less prone to having any rust issues which would be my main worry when getting a shell to work with.

not all ek9's are seam welded though, there are pictures of an RX against a normal one one was not seam welded.

so depends on weather u want to bend and recieve.

personally id rather build an ek4 thats cooler and faster than an ek9, go against the crowd#

There are better websites for that kinda thing. I hear the 'Grinder' phone app is good. Metcheck is good for the weather.

He asked what's the best chassis. An EK9 chassis is the best.

cheers for clearing that up for me.......

The 9 is far superior to other ek chassis, Honda spent millions on R&D for the 9 and no matter how good you are with a welder you won't get it as good.
Ek9 also has better brakes better suspension and is a good bit lighter. Lower center of gravity with not having a sunroof.
There's quite a long list of thing that make the 9 better than other ek's.
