I am a super proud owner of a mint 2000 Civic Type-Rx in the eastcoast of the USA. I love this car!

I do have a concern about 93 octane and the ecu. The highest here is 93 octane. I can get 100 octane but its $8 per gal so im not going that route. Is 93 octane hurting my motor???

The car is completely stock with a Jasma catback exhaust and its going to stay that way.

So,

What are my options? Retune? Reflash?

If you was to pay $8 a Gal it would cost you around about the same it costs us over here lol....

How does it drive on the 93 ? It maybe a good idea to get it tuned to stay on the safe side.

I bet your well happy with it though lol, i bet there super rare over there.

You should be ok running 93...just not as responsive as the 100 octane.
In California 100 octane is running 5.99 per gallon.

is 93 octane in the US not much the same as 97 octane in say europe?

always lead to believe the way it was graded differed in the US.

The ek9 is the holy Grail of civics over here in the usa. Defiantly a rare car here.

I spoke with my tuner and he said it should be fine but i really dont think it is. I mean, its such a big difference from the octane in japan. The car drives fine and pulls pretty nicely for a 1.6 motor but i could imagine that it could output more with proper tuning.

maybe i should stock up on octane booster and drop a bottle in whenever i fill up.

i think one day im going to just put in a few gallons of 100 octane just to see if there is a difference. good thing i have good credit lol.

You won't need 100 octane over in the states, be unecessary. The US measure it differently than Europe. Over here we show the RON number on the pump whereas over the pond you use the average of RON and AKI (anti knock index) to show at the pump. Works out about 5 less than the Euro equivelent.. So your 93 RON equates to our 97/98 Super unleaded. Jap premium is 100 as said which is what V-Power etc offers.

I'd say your 93 should be fine but if you can get 95 then your laughing

your 93 octane is equivalent to japanese 100 octane.

Fuel is rated differently in different contries.

There is RON , MON and (ron+mon)/2

Japan runs only on Ron , While in north america we run on ron+mon/2

so Northamerican 93 = 99 Mon

which is just fine.

The B16b is a great motor, but nothing really Miraculousness out of it , run 93 , and you'll be good.

Want to make a little more power, go OBD1 with neptune RTP and get a tuner to tune your car, and you'll gain a few hp.

Hi CTR_Rick:
There is not a huge difference with 100 octane tbh.
To me it feels a tad more responsive but not a ton.
It is nice to know when WOT I am getting as much out of the engine, as far as power, as I can possibly can.

That's good to know. I really gonna put in 100 octane just to see how she reacts. Can't wait.
