When I bought my EK9 it had a buddy club spec 3 back box and standard b-pipe, however, the hangers have been welded on to fit the ek9. I want to sell it now and am wondering if this will be ok for an EK3 or will it have different fitment?

It will fit, the EK3 will need a JDM spec decat to mate to the exhaust :)

Jimbo, isnt the cat a part of the mani on an ek3.....?

Yes it is and that's why you need the 12" decat - because an EK9 exhaust has a JDM 12" cat underneath the car the exhaust itself is 12" shorter than an EK3 exhaust.

What's shorter on the ek9 exhaust? The b-pipe or the back box? The ek3 I think has already got standard exhaust, it's just the backbox they are after

It'll be the b pipe I do believe

So the backbox should go straight on without any problems? I only ask as my hangers have been adjusted/welded on and just need to make sure it will be the same fitment for ek3

Ah ok, thanks :) Wasn't sure, thats why i was asking

No prob :)

Not sure; EK9 has a bigger pipe diameter than an EK3 so not sure wether it will be air-tight. Also, I know on my EG5 I had flanges to connect for the exhaust but my DC2 has donut gaskets. If you really want extra performance I'd go for a different header without cat (cheapest would be a D16 one, otherwise after market), a high flow cat or maybe a JDM cat (it isn't optimal but cheaper than a high flow one and certainly better than stock EK3) and then full EK9 exhaust.

Another question is wether that is good for your engine; I have an EK3 as a daily and have toyed with that question. When the engine is running econo it is running very lean. The engine is built to run that lean. But by improving your exhaust your mixture will very probably get even leaner and I can't help but wonder wether the engine can take that.

i am toying with the idea of putting an ek9 system on my EK3 (baffles are gone anyway) and was wondering whether this would be a decent mod...

Will be replacing the manifold for aftermarket and sourcing JDM cat too. Figured, should be a bit more free flowing, pass MOT, and be a cheap mod. Thoughts please!
