Hey guys been a while since ive been on here since my 540bhp coupe vti and that was about 4/5 years ago now!!

Since then ive had a PY JDM teg, clio trophy, mazda 3 mps....then along came the dog so had to be a bit sensible - BMW 325i msport Touring and now im driving an 06 Octavia VRS estate.

With a little one on the way the girlfriend has now got an estate (for dog and baby...family car) so theres no need for me to have one aswell.

I do about 540 miles a month so started looking at cars sub 6K that are good on fuel and could fit dog in with the back seats down.
Please bear in mind that im not after an all out performance car as ive had a fair shair of those, this is something that has some go when needed, compfy, not to old skool and good mpg.

Test drove a little suzuki swift sport the other week and believe it or not its a fun little car, i can see why there used at the ring so much as rentals....but i keep looking at the EK9's.

What are your opinions of them daily (an EK9 as standard as possible, i would not be modding it) - comfort, has the exterior / interior dated ? / mpg e.t.c

Thanks
James

I would get a Clio 182 - better on fuel just as quick and a hell of a lot cheaper.

True but also nowhere near as reliable compared to an ek9 u not reckon?

My mate bought a litteraly mint 04 celica Gt vvtl for £4500. Nice on the road, quick with 190hp, nice interior and he swears he gets 38mpg on runs. Id have one myself if i were to replace the ek9

Ohh yes thats a good option! lack of TQ would bug the hell out of me if a STD 9 was a daily.

I've had my EK9 as my daily for well over 4 years now, and found it much more usable than my previous 1998 UK ITR (which was only used on weekends/track days).

The size is much more practical then the Teg, and plenty of room when the rear seats are dropped down for doing random chores/moving stuff about.

All year round the EK9 is been used, at the moment I'm still running around on my winter wheels, so it's truely an all your round car.

Been through various suspension set-up's (Oem, Honda Access, MiesterR, Oem+Eibach), and the standard OEM suspension is a very good all round set-up, great to deal with speed hump, good enough to absorb the rubbish pot holed roads, 4 up without worrying about rubbing the arches. However, comfort is just a personal opinion and differs from person-to-person.

Compared to my bro's FD2 (which was stiffer then his Evo 8), the standard EK9 suspension is just right for me.

I wouldn't buy a 9 if your planning to just get to work and carry the dog in it. Not really what the 9 was built for and plus there is much better cars for that purpose than an ek9. IMO.

true ^

but not everyone buys an Ek9 for the use of track etc, like Ben Parker on here, though he's not on very often, owns a 'stanced' ek9, with the cleanest engine bay i have ever seen haha, he garages it all year round and only brings it out for shows and meets.

I use my 9 everyday of the year, snow , rain , sun, use it to get to work every day ! its by far the most reliable car i have EVER owned.
you stay at about 70 and they are pretty damn good on fuel, and they have the poke when you fancy having a little blast.

I'd buy one as a daily ! infact i know someone with a high power starlet that uses one as a daily.. not sure if he's on here though !

IMO go for it. awesome cars.

IMO the ek9 is a **** daily unless its totaly standard suspension wise. I drove my fairly heavily modded 9 daily for two years and hated it. Totaly spoiled it realy.

Maybe a VTi with 9 lips on? Can't get much more reliable than that and good on fuel and cheap... I love them personally

That would be me dude haha :)

Awesome daily cars i have just as much fun in the 9 as the Glanza, even though its a daily it will always put a smile on your face on the way to work, no point buying a sensible car in my eyes theres just no fun in it atall i love driving to/from work in the 9, puts you in a good mood :) on stock suspension they are pretty comfortable cars IMO its only when you start messing with the setup they become hard! And as for MPG i've done 190 miles and still have half a tank left :) thats very sensible driving though lol

^ mine barely does that on a full tank.
Lots of cold starts tho.

It's not the best value for money, you can get more practical cars and mpg isn't all that good.

You cannot justify getting an EK9 as a daily car by comparing cars and facts. There are many better, more sensible options.

Get one because you want one. You wont be dissapointed.

why dont you just buy a jordan?
theres one in bedfordshire round the corner from that ek9 too for like £2500 not bad car

Ive always disliked jordans unless there modded. The interior / wheels / grill e.t.c arnt for me. Yes these things can be changed but that's not what i want to do.
I think im really leaning towards the EK9, just have to find a good one that dosent need every rubber bush replaced.

I used my EK9 everyday for 8 months :D Rain, Snow, work pleasure ....

The car was designed to be used daily with the ability to tear the track up also.

as martin said, Get one because you want one :D

lol straight to the point :nice:

Yeh i think im definitely heading it that direction, just got to try and find a good condition one that hasnt been molested too much. Preferably in white

If your interested my EK9 will be coming up for sale in around the next month, standard specification!

All applicable suspension bushes and engine mounts replaced with OEM Honda parts, by TGM :)

Hi Simone yes i probably would be interested and your not that far from me, i live in Bournemouth. Ive got the Octavia up for sale at the moment so fingers crossed that goes asap.

That's cool, your not too far from me at all.

If you want any additional details on my EK9, then please don't hesitate to ask :), as I'm more then willing to give you an honest opinion on the overall condition/work done/service history, etc...
