Hi all, my gearbox is getting old, and crunches quite a lot, so it needs a syncro rebuild. Here is my question, my mechanic in my hometown in Italy gave me a qote of 1500 euros, which at the current exchange rate is 1300GBP, right now I'm in the UK (southampton) with the car until june and I was wondering if in UK would be cheaper and if anyone from the Southampton area knows a good place to do it!(even outside Soton, if is worth it!)
thanks a lot:bow:

Oh, sorry! Totally overlooked that. If you're in England anyway, why not look for a mint S80 gearbox? Then you'll also have LSD. Also sligthly shorter gears in 1st - 3rd gear. That box will make you faster straight out ánd through the corner. And a mint one will cost a lot less than 1300gbp :)

1300 gbp? What is he doing to it? mfactory sell all the bearings for just over 300 pounds and then sell the carbon lines synchros for 175 quid so say 500 pounds for a full rebuild kit, if i was you id buy the mfactory stuff and take it to someone in england as that guy is obv ripping you off BIG TIME

The thing is that I wouldn´t know where to go here to get the job done properly, i have a mechanic close to mz house but is very dodgy..Anyway, how much is the OEM rebuild kit?

why dont you just buy a S4C lsd box out of a ek9 and sell on your old box for parts. would cost alot less than getting it fixed and you'd have a lsd then too! :drive:

They are not ripping him off

The carbon lined synchros are just the synchro rings themselves, does not include synchro sleeves/hubs

I rebuilt my box with a full set of new carbon lined synchrotech synchro rings however i still have a bit of a crunch from 1st to 2nd as the synchro hub/sleeve is needing done too, even with a fair bit of discount that is costing me £290 alone from honda for the assembly :wow:

1300 sounds about right for having it done PROPER

1500 is a bit steep imo, the reason im saying this is because my dad is a mechanic and does alot of gearbox rebuilds for road but mainly rally cars and they never costs this much, and rebuilding an evo gearbox is dearer than a civic so shop around the uk mate while your there to get a good price...

x2 you would be a lot better off doing this! 1500e to rebuild the gearbox? You be crazy to pay that!

thanks a lot for the replies, I would love to get it done here in england because i also think would be cheaper, the only problem is that i don t know where to go to get it done properly:angry2:!Does anyone know a honda specialist in hampshire or near? I asked around in Italy and the prices are aligned to 1500 euro more or less..

Full 1st-5th/R + Sleeve/Hub and Carbon Synchros = $815 + shipping :)
