Hi gents, just passed my test last month and fully set to be on the road now, but I still can't get myself an EK9 because of the insurance man and being a student for another year from Sep.

I've opted to save my money then and get an EK3/4 for a few years.

Been looking around on all the regular ad websites but can't find a decent one for around £1000. I know my budget doesn't really allow, but I wouldn't mind having one with better than stock wheels, possibly lowered and a nice sound (air intake or exhaust) either. Could stretch to £12-1300 if right car is found.

Any ideas anyone on where best to look?

Thanks.

i dont think you will be able to buy an ek4 at £1300 but you could probley find an ek3 for around that price.

I would have to agree.. your really going to strugle getting what you want for such a low budget!

the best thing you can do is find a standard one and slowly do it up yourself. that way you can do it slowly but your not paying a premium to start off with!

other way to try and get a cheeper one is try ebay or car auctions. but unless you can see the car you will be buying blind and so you will be taking a risk with a low priced car.

good luck with it though!

you could get a eg civic for cheaper ?

Exactly what I thought when i read this post, the EG is a lovely car, im sure you could get your hands on a 1.5 LSI for that money easy. SOHC, but still got VTEC!!

Reckon thats your best bet by far mate, grab a standard one, drop it, find some EG VTI rims (they look the bollox sprayed black) and a nice exhaust & you'll have a lovely motor!!

isnt the ek3 lsi 1.5 a vtec and for eg wouldnt u have to get an 1.6esi for sohc vtec correct me if im wrong

Depending on your mechanical knowledge/skill you could always buy a cheap base car and do a vti engine transplant, there are always plenty of parts available to do that. If you do the work yourself, you could end up with something fast for not a lot of cash.

Thanks for the advice peeps.

Yes, I've spotted a few nice EK3's on another forum for the same price range. Will be discussing a possible sale for them soon.

What's the dif between an EK4 and 3 anyway?

EK4 = 1.6 VTi VTEC DOHC 158bhp
EK3 = 1.5 iLS VTEC (essentially VTEC-E) SOHC 115bhp

Note there is no VTEC on the EK3. no jerk. no change over. Purely economical.

yeah my mate used to have a 1.5 eg civic and it was quick ! not quite 16b quick but you know what i mean. Can get em well cheap:nice:

ek4 is still insurance group 15 as well here in the uk so if you have just passed would think its gonna be a fair amount to insure it.

EG sounds like a good idea.:nice:

Nah mate, I'm opting for the EK3 (grp 10). It desires a little more power yes, but it's decent enough with good fuel economy for the first motor. Premiums on that aren't sky-high either. Hopefully one day I can get the big bad 9.

lol Manos.
