well lads,
As most of you uk and irish member have noticed the weather has been wet here lately.

A few of my friends have ek civics, 2 type R's and 1 1.4i. The 3 cars have been leakin over the past week in pretty much the same part of the car. passenger side! only one of them has a wet boot though.

is there a weakness i should know about in the ek civics that they leave in water??

as far as i know aswell none of them have been invovled in a crash.

cheers for the help lads,
Den

I dont like to say it to you but the only civics ive seen leaking before were the ones which were previously crashed and not fixed properly....

i get a leak in my boot wen it rains heavy....but never heard of water comin in by the passenger seat....tell the to check that the handbrake cable seals are in place an not jus danglin there could be a cause.

well one of them defo isnt crashed he brought it in himself and i seen the auction sheet grade4:D

any chance it could come up from underneath if it got a bad knock off a speed bump???

the rear cluster leaking can be fixed, and can end up with water going into the boot. however, water under the pasenger seat and rear bench is rare. strip the car and wash the car and see if you can find where the water is coming from.

You can fix the leak in the cluster by upgrading to 98 spec tail light cluster, the seal is much better instead of the "sponge" type that came on the 97.

maybe tail lights not screwed in properly?

There shouldn't be any holes underneath your car unless there is rust, And rust is not good. I suggest maybe putting your car on a hoist to check it out with a torch.

If the water seal paint has been scraped off then rust will develop.

but there is not water in the boot as all. its totally dry which means its coming in from somewhere else.

they are all fairly new cars aswell so i doubt they are rusting.

could it sep in from underneath if the water seal paint has been scraped off??

FIX for PASSENGER Footwell Leaking.

My 9 is leaking badly so after a lot of investigation, it is a common problem with these Civic.

Peel back the carpet in the footwell, check if you got water running down the face of the firewall.

If so, it is likely to be in the corner where sealant weren't on properly.

You have to remove the Heater and Aircon box, you need to De-gas the aircon system, so I wouldn't recommend doing it at home unless you have the equipment.

once removed on the top left corner you will see this, in my case it was leaking where circled.

:nice::nice::nice: i think thats exectly what im looking for i think !!!!!
cheers for that help and the picture. that seems about a right place for the leak as the cars are parked on a hill and the water settles just below the back seat

thanks again Tmus:D

im joining the list now :D lol had one in the rear cluster which seems to of gone and now i have one in the passenger foot well....seems to be coming from exactly where tmus says...will be onto that asap :D

got one in my puma as well so may as well do them both.lol..****ing cars

is it at all possible to do this without degasing the system?????
and why is it so hard to degas it??

which ones the aircon (the white or black box will be a good enough answer.lol)

and can you remove the heater without the aircon etc etc. was hoping you could work around them but theres no chance at all.:(

done it the other way round as i didnt want the hassle of moving the aircon etc.

took the fuse box out and the battery out etc and resealed all the joins on that side. it was blatent that water had been running there and collecting etc so fingers crossed..will let you know if it works.

no it is not possible to remove Blower without the aircon unit!.(well i didn't try coz it will be even harder)

the reason I said you have to degas it as it is pressurize if you unplug the hose it will just...explode?? dangerous so i wouldn't want you to hurt yourself.

AND it is not possible to fix this without doing it this way, I tried doing what you done sealing under the fuse box!

but it is on another layer of metal.

see what you mean tmus regarding sealing else where. but did you try removing the black plastic strip at the bottom of the windscreen etc. and redoing all the seals.

as common sense would say that it has to be getting in from somewhere in that general area etc.? if you just seal in the inside then technically the water is still getting into that area but just being collected or distributed else where.

not being cocky...just interesting :) well i think lol

EDIT* Did you make sure it was coming down from behind the blower?

no problem I was the same as you.

Yes I have done all that, I understand what you mean its still getting in....

the other way to seal that bit is I been told to take fender off, roll back some metal and then you can get to it.

the only way to find out is to try water test after the sealants dry.

if not
The heater unit is just a few 10mm bolts, and some trim and glovebox.

Then you will see the bit in my picture, pour some water down on the screen down that corner, you will see it come in.

heres the mess I had to make to seal it, in this picture it was not enough the water was still coming in to the right of the black sealant.

I had to redo it where I have mark out, it looks like theres like a "gasket" or some sort. So if you seal it up to that it looks like the water will stop going to he "right".
