Do I have a V-TEC problem?

Hi, I have recently just brought my new ek9. Its a great fun can but I think I might have a problem with the v-tec. When I hammer it, the v-tec kicks in just after 6000rpm, it climbs well but just before 8000rpm it goes alot faster, then obviously you run out of revs, change gear, then goes just past 6000rpm again.
Is this normal or should it be pulling hard all the way round from 6000-8700rpm?

Cheers

Some Ek9's will pull harder than others higher in the rev range. Honda's are known for top end power so I wouldnt be worried about it. maybe check your oil level I no if your oil is low vtec doesnt work as good

Thats the way a stock ek9 revs, I some times when I shifted quickly I didn't stay in the vtec range :nerv: you should change the final drive from 4.40 to a 4.78...

The oil is perfect. Why will some be faster than others? I am soon going to modify it so what is the final drive and how do you change it? Cheers

some engines are in better shape than others, grade of fuel used also has a major impact, and weight of the car + weight of the driver, if you have a bunch of crap in the car or a lot of ice its going to be slower.

hmm...interesting what you say. You might be better than normal :woot:. I think stock EK9 in good condition should behave the same(same vtec push) up to the end. Mine was stock and in good engine condition, oil pressure-quantity etc but the vtec was behaving the same way....The extra pull you say is what you get from Skunk2 Stage 2 camshafts when you set the appropriate cam degrees :D

I am not convinced that this is normal, but i havent driven any other ek9's so i guess im not gonna know. its more noticeable when i redline 2nd then go into 3rd, it feels like a flat spot until it hits bout 7500rpm.

i found out last night on the motorway, if i redline 4th at 200kmh then change to 5th the car slows down and hesitates. Is this because it is restricted because of jap laws?

cheers

Thats correct, do you know if you have a SLD? speed limit defencer ? :nerv:

Its almost impossible from here to understand how your car behaves :(......You are the one you feels it and you know better. So, I would say its a good idea to take it for an overall check to someone who has the appropriate knowledge about EKs. You might prevent something worse as well! :nice:

Can you post a video of your car revving ? that will help! :) If you have one but need help putting it in youtube let me know.

yeah ill have a go at taking a video then ill show u it. cheers for all ya help tho. i have never uploaded a vid on youtube yet so i might have to get u to do it rvm :D

I think my car is ok because i had a race with a jdm itr last night and there wasnt much in it but he did get the edge and pasted me very slowly. it had exhaust and his vtec sounded very loud, so i done well considering mine is stock?

Mine also is having issues when i get into 5th gear, 120mph into 5th and its not wanting to go faster :( i aint had much chance to check it as im still dying with the flu, my car currently has a UK ITR manifold, UK Cat (Way bigger than the jdm cat) and a jap spec rear and center section that is blowing, stock airbox too for now

burnsey_100, I believe your EK9 is healthier even than you mate :) , and you just worry for nothing. I had the same worries when I bought mine just like almost every owner of a new car, I was trying to hear noises to say that something was wrong :D
Since you battled with a DC2 and you did so well, it means the only case your EK9 to be damaged, is for the DC2 you raced to be damaged as well!! :nice:

Im having the same problem, I get mine to 130mph no probs then nothing ..... thought it had a 210kph restrictor as one of the other guys on here posted that he had one, but i took it down a long straight hill near where I live and got it to 145mph so it can't be limited right?

Is your EK9 completely stock(no air filter, no exhaust, nothing)?

No its not. It has a mugen twin loop, spoon 4-2-1 and aem cold air intake. And last night my best mod, the big hill. Any ideas?

Actually, I just started a thread about it to get others opions on it if you want to reply on that?

Cheers :)
