Cusco RS LSD - 1 or 1.5 way - help me decide...

Difficult to say what you would prefer if you have not tried any of the plate types, 1, 1.5 or 2 way.
A one way works on acceleration only, some prefer it on track saying it is easier to direct the car where you want it going into a corner as you ease off the throttle, it also doesnt snatch if you lift off suddenly (as you lift off it unlocks straight away)
The 1.5 way works on both acceleration and deceleration, if you lift off it will snatch but not as aggressivley as a 2 way. The rear can certainly be more tail happy with these, but your suspension will be setup to help or not. Any of them are good for the track, just tailor your driving to suit, but if you are new to this type of LSD its probably best to choose the 1 or 1.5 way.
Im sure the MFactory guys can give a better explanation :nice:

Thanks Haitch. I think I will not go for a 2 way, since Cusco do not even recommend 2 way for circuit use....they only recommend 1 or 1.5 way for FF cars....
Well I guess I will learn to use either....and like you said, tailor the driving a suspension setting to suit (tyre pressure and damping)...

What do you mean by Bloody Mental? Do you mean it is awesome, or do you mean it is 'crazy', like loud and ridiculous?

i have a cusco 1.5 way in my ek9 ,its nuts but its a bit embarrassing when you driving out of a petrol station and old people are looking at you funny when it knocks and bangs
i drove a dc2 with a 1 way diff and id go for that because it doesn't knock as much and you don't have to fight the steering wheel when on bends ect

...a very personal choice really as it relates to feel.

Dont forget that its not like you are stuck with that configuration when you buy it , you can reconfigure it to what you want 1way etc and adjust the initial torque by restacking the clutch plates

Update - I bought a 1 way CUSCO RS LSD! I will update this thread again when I finally install and use it! Thanks everyone for your input!

Quick question!

While everything is apart, when we fit the LSD....what else should I change out?

I mean, it is a good chance to save some money on labour, while the gearbox is out....
I was thinking lightened flywheel, and maybe clutch?
Everyone seems to say that the stock clutch is fine.....and mine it not slipping/feels good, so probably not worth it?

Anyway, anything you guys can suggest, would be greatly appreciated.

Seems a good chance to stick in a lightened flywheel and/or a new clutch if you so wish.

Lightened flywheel is a great mod for the money, the standard clutch can handle some serious abuse on track, if you have no paperwork and the car is on a higher mileage, just put another standard one in.
Many opt for a stage 1 clutch instead, thinking they need one that can handle more, the price of a stage 1 and an oem unit may not be that much, the pedal feel is slightly heavier, you often dont notice how much heavier it is until you drive another standard one after some time in a stage 1. Something more than a stage 1 feels great on track but on the road can easily become a chore.
I would refresh whatever parts you can for your money, bearings etc, a good garage would do this anyway, and if you have deep pockets, a 4.7 or 4.9 final drive are very good value for money.

Thanks Coxy, Haitch.

Haitch, yes I already have a tighter gear ratio than stock due to the S80 gearbox.
That is enough for me, gearing-wise....
I think I will change the clutch for a OEM one....just because they are pretty cheap, and yeah, I definitely love the light clutch feel of the EK9....so cruisy after having a subaru STI for the last couple of years.....

Glad you ended up with a 1 way. The reason why you want this over any other specifically for circuit use is because it opens under braking and decel. This enables you to place the car where you want to without any input from the lsd if it were a 1.5 or 2 way which can result in understeer unless corrected with alignment and suspension tuning.

While your trans is apart and you intend to do so many events per season, you should get our close ratio gears. They really wake the torqueless wonder up!

Yeah I would love to do that, RagingAngel.....but it will have to wait a while. I have too many other expenses to deal with.
I have the S80 98 spec gearbox in my EK9 right now, so slightly closer gearing in 1/2/3.....as far as I know...
