Cusco RS LSD - 1 or 1.5 way - help me decide...

As the title says, I am stuck in trying to decide between the 1 and 1.5 way LSDs....
Cusco suggests only 1 way for daily drivers, but they say that both the 1 and 1.5 are suitable for track work.

I am going to be averaging 10-12 track days a year, I guess, and using my car a little on the street, 2 times a week or maybe 3.

I guess 1 way is the safe bet, but I do not want to miss out on the advantages ( assuming there are advantages) of the 1.5 way, since I will be dropping a lot of money on the installation...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

PS I decided on the RS because of availability, price and support in Japan. It seems like an obvious choice, and the low initial torque seems good for a street car, as opposed to the MZ model, Kaaz etc...

And, yes, I searched for about a week on various forums and could not quite find the advice/info I was hoping for.:drive:

The only experience I had was with Cusco 1.5way on my EP91 Glanza. They were great but were a bit over aggressive for a daily driver and made loud clunking noises... scared the **** out of me when I drove it after getting it put it. I thought my car was gonna fall apart or the garage f*%$ed my car up. However the driving style had changed dramatically than without the LSD but I must say LSD are a lot of fun.

I would say get the 1 way unless you like loud clunking noises which I was told were normal for this kinda aggressive lsd.

Yea I have pretty much this LSD. 1.5. Sounds like a rollercoaster pulling out of junctions!!

Because the initial torque is lower , Id go for the 1.5way !

Depends what your gonna be using it for, if its a daily driver ad maybe suggest the 1

same as what Ross sayed mate for a daily driver i would go with the 1 . A friend of mine has a Kaaz 1.5 and theres is alot of clunking and he hates it for daily driving, also had a mate with the cusco 1.5 in his Jordan and his was the same as the Kaaz ,clunky and not the best for a road car.

I have a 2 way mugen on my 9! Absolutely amazing! Without a doubt 1.5 way!

Ok, but does anyone have experience with a one way? It seems everyone is saying that the 1.5s clunk around like crazy, but maybe the 1 way will be the same (?!)
hmmm....

I have the 1.5 way in my 9 and use it on both track and the street, it only really clonks at low speeds. So not really to much of an issue id say

It will only clunk and bang if you have a plated diff. A helical diff will be smooth and very quiet. The EK9 comes with a 1 way as standard

I also have a Mugen 2 way diff, mental for daily driver, but i am bit mental.
I would go for a kaaz 1.5, and use there supplied diff oil, should'nt be to bad at all, but be aware it does'nt make you a better driver, and will bite you if abused.

just wondering with Front engine Front wheel drive cars, when you go to the track and do a lift throttle oversteer does the 1.5 or 2way amplify that and potentially cause a spin out? Well...until you get used to it and adjust your driving? Because the 1.5 and 2way are suppose to pull you even off throttle as opposed to just 1ways.

Just wondering how much are the CuscoRS's LSDs in Japan EK9osaka?

Hahaha that's spot on. It really does sound like a rollercoaster when it is going up a steep slope all that clicking and clunking.

I think for a daily driver it's a bit aggressive... but then again it is fun. Just be prepared when you need to turn at low speeds i.e. junctions, traffic lights, parking it's gonna make a lot of noise.

When I had my Glanza I actually bought a Quaife helical diff and it was meant to be a lot more friendly and smooth but never got round to fitting it in.

i have a cusco MZ type 1 way lsd in my 9 and it clunks like F**K! but its bareable once you get used to it..

Ahhh....oh well, so yeah it is going to clunk around......but again, does anyone have any strong opinions on choosing a 1 way over a 1.5 way, or vice versa?!

I picked up my car today, by the way! Drove it an hour home from the dealer....it was really good fun, but a bit nervous...you know: listening for weird noises, rattles etc...but it was good.
It actually has a S80 box, and it felt like a light flywheel. I have never driven an EK9 before, but the flywheel just felt very light....maybe I was tripping...

I had a Tomei 2-way on my S13 and it was awesome! It would 'clunk' in low RPM cornering with no acceleration, thats it. No problems in a line or high RPM/acceleration in a corner. I found myself having to have the clutch pressed quite a bit while driving in parking lots or car parks. It was my daily driver. I lived in Montana at the time and it endured all the elements like a champ. Never felt unsafe with it during the winter, just drove smart.

Long story short, if you really want to get one, get a 1.5. You wont be sorry. Oh, and congrats on picking up the car.

Ha ha....yeah but I definitely see this car as a 50/50 daily/track car....so I think I can live with some bumps and clunks.
Really, I am 100% set on getting a clutch type LSD....I just cannot figure out the real world difference between 1 and 1.5 way...
