ok guys , i need ur suggestions or opinions here. my problem is :
i have a set of 15" te37 replica. to my surprise when i weight my wheel during a wheel change it is 4.4 kgs which is lighter than the tyre itself(yoko advan ad07)
so here is my dilemma , my wheels are 4 lugs and i want to do a 5 lug conversion later.i want the ek9 look but i can;t afford a new wheel which is the same weight as my current one. should i sacrifice looks over function or should i just stick to the current wheel and upgrade to a larger brakes from a prelude.?

ask yourself what's more important.

do you want performance over looks or do you want both?

If you can't afford the wheels that you want in the weight that you like, it's just a matter of saving up ...especially if you want to have your cake and to be able to eat it too

I would upgrade to bigger brakes to the prelude mg set up. Can some1 tell me the benefits of 5 stud???

OMFG! ^
now i am scared for life.
*Bucc-i begins typing with one hand!*

Whoooah nelly, nobody click on this stuff. But hey, we haven't had spammers in a while, I guess EK9.org is getting more popular?

This is quite annoying I wish some people would get a life!!!

5 stud uses a different hub to give the front and rear a wider track. It's been a while and I can't remember the exact gain in overall track width.

Simply upgrading to the Prelude brakes up front will also produce this effect if you install the 3mm (per side) spacers under the rotor hat.

However, many argue that doing this practice may cause an imbalance which can ultimately affect the life of the wheel bearing. In our experience this hasn't been much of an issue, but then again our cars see considerably more track time and if something breaks...we almost always attribute it to the abuse we put them through.

Thank you:nice:

i wonder what would the difference be if i swap my 4.4kg wheels to a 7kg ek9 rims...

if i want my cake and eat it ... it's gonna cost me a whole lot of my ass
a 5 lug conversion with rims is about usd 1000 . i'll have to folk out another usd 300 for a set of tires. (yoko ad07)

It is said that every pound taken off the wheel equals to 4lbs on the chassis. So in this case.

It is a base difference of 5.72lbs EACH corner.

multiply by 4 for every wheel = 22.88lbs

then multiply by 4 to give the theoretical chassis weight = 91.52lbs

or approximately 41.6 kgs of weight added by switching over to the heavier EK9 wheels.

I don't know if you have access to Mazda Millennia 929 wheels in your country, but they are the same size as the CTR/ITR (USDM) @ 15 x 6, 50mm offset, but they weigh 5.2kg in the 9spoke version and 5.45kg in the 12 spoke version.

I personally think they look better than the stock wheels. But then again my car looks like junk, so I'm not one to ask if something looks nice on a car or not :p

those wheels looks nice... i think if it;s in white with red lips it will be better ... i'm not too sure about those rims availability here.. have to do some scouting but thanks for the info about the upsprung weight . really helpdfull. muchu gracias
