Comptech ice box

can this icebox for the 99-00 civic si be used on 96-00 w/ a sohc engine? since you can put a b16 throttle body on a d16 the piping should matte there.

the ice box will bolt up no problem but your probably gonna have to make a custom intake for it to meet the filter coming out of the box.

Put an aftermarket intake manifold on it to make it easier on yourself or get one from an automatic D16Y8 and do the conversion from a updraft t-body to a horizontal positioning.

:nice:

I guess I should have mentioned I have a d16y8 already, which does have the horizontal, unlike the US y7 that has the up-draft.

but the intake arm will still need customization? any dyno plots of the icebox vs a aem/injen style CAI?

If the teg Ice Box plumbing fits then you'll be fine. But I doubt it. You'll need to replace and make custom brackets for the ice box. As far as I know the Ice box filter ring size is same as civic ice box. Just the plumbing and brackets are different.

You should have just gotten the Civic box and played from there. Gdluck anyway! :nice:

I would recommend you to do it properly and get the Comptech intake arm like mine. That way you have a true 3.5" intake system, which is plenty for even a B18C. You'd also have more volume over the Mugen system. :)

I've finally got the parts. From the looks of it, it should fit no problem. I'll post up once I've installed it this weekend. Then we'll know for sure.

Here's what CT Engineering said when I emailed them:

In terms of actual dimensions, they would be the same. It's just the location of holes drilled in the box, and the brackets that come with them. Thanks again,

Hi,

Is there a difference between the 99-00 Si Icebox vs the Integra Icebox in terms of (size and dimensions).

I understand that the mounting brackets/bracket locations will be different. But in terms of the colder air trumpet length, is that different between the two ice boxes (if so how much of a difference in length)?

Thank you,
Wesley

Weird, my earlier post didn't make it on here. Let me try again. Here's some info from CompTech, regarding differences/simliarities between the Civic SI and Integra IceBoxes:

I finally received the CompTech IceBox (for Integra) and the Samco Intake Arm (also for DC2).

Installing it took a little longer than expected, mainly due to mocking up the location of the IceBox and the trumpet/tube. How close the icebox sits against the coolant reservoir was also quite surprising. I can see it is quite close in JugBugz’ pics, but when I installed it, it was damn right snug. I had to unbolt the top nut on the coolant reservoir bracket and push it forward (towards the front bumper) as much as I could to make enough room to fit the IceBox comfortably. Right now the reservoir sits sandwiched between the icebox and my Koyo radiator.

The quality is indeed pretty darn good as mentioned in a few other posts. The plastic is semi-pliable/bendable and is thick and durable (not brittle like abs plastic).

In the end, I didn’t even use the 2 metal mounting brackets for the sides of the icebox. I only used the trumpet/tube fastener + bracket (at the Toe-hook location). I also used fasteners in the usual locations on the intake (ie: throttle body, velocity stack, air filter). Those fasteners along with the coolant reservoir sitting snug against the icebox, results in zero movement (that’s even better for me since I don’t need to worry about the two brackets I couldn’t mount – if you really wanted to, you could mount 1 of the icebox side brackets but some creativity would be required).

To confirm, the only difference between the Civic SI and Integra IceBox is really just the mounting bracket locations for the ice box. Everything else fits the same (tho I can’t say for sure how big the velocity stack hole in the icebox is for the Civic SI, but presumably it’s the same (I think mine is 3.5”).

Driving impressions are decent so far – I didn’t drive it much as the roads are wet outside (VTEC kept slipping). There does appear to be a little more torque (?) below 4K RPM. Partial throttle bursts seem more responsive. Full throttle bursts at 4K+ RPM seem to be the same/slightly better than before. Keep in mind I didn’t reset my ECU until I got home, so maybe it’ll perform a tad better tomorrow. For today, the response did seem to get better as I drove it. With regards to sound dampening, the intake whistling is not apparent or is gone now, but the drone at 4K – 4.3K RPM is still as loud. I guess I am not allowed to forget what I drive, nor are my passengers..haha

Would I do it again? Yes, so far it seems to be worth the $$$.

So I guess if you bought the civic Si intake it would have saved you more trouble and atleast the ICE BOX would be mounted properly. But atleast it all worked out! :nice:

Yup, that's true. Except no one could guarantee a perfect fit to the samco intake arm, hence what I did.
