Pace and performance are pretty equal, Clio has more grunt low down, the EK9 handles slightly better, it corners flatter and the lsd helps, but the clio has plenty of grip, the chassis is excellent, it just cocks a wheel and hangs on in the corners, it is a lively & fun car.
Having tried both standard/fully modded and on track the EK9 is just a more exciting car. Sounds to me that money is the major factor here, its all about what you want from the car, be sure if you want to mod it for the road or track that you have a good tuner nearby - like any car. If you just want an everyday with a 'nice interior', its whatever suits.
The 206 GTI is a bland and under achieving car against either the Clio or EK9. The Clio is more popular but as said lacks load presence.
Book figures maybe the same/similar for the 180 but the Clio is the better drive by a long way, if you want something that 'looks nice inside' then it is the car for you.
Well i own a 180 and its as good as the clio.

Well with an argument like that Tim you must be right........
On a plus note i've remembered why i dont want to own a honda..
Cheers Guys
I owned a Williams for 6yrs & a Trophy for a yr after that before DC5 & EK9..
would totally reccommend them- great fun to drive. Williams had miles more steering feel than the later cars & they all feel really torquey compared to Type R's but don't rev nearly as high obviously. Driving position & gearchange will be a bit disapointing compared to EK9 & the body rolls more in corners, but they're really chuckable & pretty much as quick on a b-road point to point.
I found my Clios pretty solid tbh, think they get a bit of a bad press regarding reliability. I needed rear callipers twice, & power steering line burst, but nothing else in 6yrs on Williams except wear & tear items. Boot lid decided not to open on Trophy, but got done under warranty.
They are lightweight cars compared to most other hatches, so not as robust as, say, a GolfGTI, but that's what makes them great fun to drive.
Just make sure you never take it to a Renault Dealer!!
They are useless!!!
