I had a drag race in my stock EK9 with a cup at crail last year and I beat it by about 3 car lengths! my mate has one also and he cant get near me!
I have the vid of me and the cup somewhere, I will try and find it!
TBH I would never touch a french car ever again, I have had a pug and a renault and my family have had various french cars and they are all pants!

just get one ross i think they are very simillar to the ek9 and yes the interior isnt that great but is the ek9s really that spectacullar!?? its a good compramise if you cant afford to run/own an ek9 as usual the choice is really yours id have thought the first step is join one of they're forums and get some first hand info.....

The ek9 is much better car than 172 and 182 cups. My light tuned vti has smoked several they feel quicker because they have more torque. Once vtec comes in bye bye mr clio. Although power to weight is nearly identical between 172 cup, 182 cup and ek9 the ek9 can put the power down better has a better chassis and a better engine on paper they look similar in reality its no contest.

Just get one Dunsy and then let us all know a fair comparison.
As we all know torque is what you feel, but can be mis-leading. From watching endless video's and reading up about the clio's I think standard for standard they are going to be just as quick as an EK9 if there is a difference in the 2 it will be minimal.
Im yet to have a good blast with one in all honesty!
As for looks I really like their exterior styling, inside I want to cry, but small things such as driving position can always be changed. After putting my OEM Recaro back in I think the EK9 position is too high.
Personally im a Honda fan and probably always will be, but like you say you cant ignore the performance your getting for the money! But then looking at that from a different angle you can by a 2nd hand scoob for 5 grand that will eat both - just depends what your cup of tea is...
Anyways let us know how you get on...

i hear from a mate when your buying a 172 its actually 162 bhp and 182 is actually 172bhp, took my mates 182 to a dyno it came in at 177bhp with mods, so it was down on power. my car with 1 mod came up 10 bhp above power, just to show accuracy!

My brother has a Clio 172 in green of all colours (some limited edition version.) To drive it's a belter, great handling and good brakes and a nice engine which has a little extra low end/mid range Ooomph over a B16. They are fantastic to drive but the driving position is pretty crap, the interior is put together by apes and made by them as well. The big put off is how tempremental(probably the wrong spelling) they are, brothers is having all sorts of problems at the moment. It's pissing oil everywhere, it's developed a pretty nasty misfire, the speedo has a mind of it's own as do the electric windows and radio.
Good car, but they are too troublesome and I would'nt touch one because of that. My brother also had horrendous problems with Renault when things went wrong, basically Renault charged a fortune and did'nt fix the problem, since then the Renault garage in North Wales became a Nissan garage instead due to the crap customer care.

I was going to suggest one of these even though they are French pish lol. at least it's old school and lightWeight clios are crap as are all French cars but I still have a r5 & r11 turbo but they do break a lot
I had a ph1 v6 Clio I bought it brand new, my mate had a 172 cup at same time and the v6 was not much quicker it did handle well but they are just so badly built I had my v6 20 mins and did 8 miles from showroom b4 the window fell into the door then an hour later the alarm started going the pads split in 2 the rear subframe mounts were shagged at 7000 and 15000 miles all under warranty but It always had a slight missfire only just noticeable at 1500 revs but it had been back to Reno many times to no avail so had enough and sold it losing 11000 on what I paid new worth every penny to get rid
I had a race with my mates mi16 engined 205 at time and I struggled to pass him he now has a gti6 engined one its ok but no match for the fiesworth
