hey,

sorry if this is in the wrong place or is pretty stupid question.

as some of you may know im learning to drive soon and i'm thinking of getting a civic as a first car (trying to find a decent EJ as EKs will kill me on insurance) and i was just wondering, will engine mods for EKs and EJs work on the plain old granny civics you see in autotrader like this : Click here

as im planning on modding it, nothing more than air filter and strut braces to start with, just small things then when i can afford the insurance i'll move on to bigger and better things. I'd just like to know if id be able to buy all the usual mods i see on these forums for this car :)

thanks :)

Yep. Good choice too, better than the wheezy 1.4.

I don't know why there aren't more of these about, everyone seems to go for the one that can't pull the skin off a rice pudding!

Less weight, more cool.

LOL

and thanks for the quick replies :D my 17th cant come any sooner, now i just gotta sort out the insurance :(

i got quoted 17k on that car :/

EDIT: oh and what engine would something like that car have seeing as nobody posts engine pics or engine details on autotrader ¬¬

You'll be very lucky if you can insure a civic as a first car, I gave up when most companies were quoting 4k and that was 5 years ago so got a 1.0 yaris instead which was an awesome little car (so great my gf had 2 aswell)

Sorry mate but for a 1st car and for a 17 year old the 1.4 is plenty fast enough

I had a 1.4 and got stung £1600 for my first year, it won't be cheap insuring it these days but hope you can find a reasonable quote.

And welcome to the forum mate.

The 1.4 90hp ain't that bad imho, especially as a first car.

hmm if i can find a quote for 3k id be happy as thats like my limit, hopefully i will :)

yeah the 1400's are crackin wee engines for what they are, will still be well steep to insure though, might be cheaper for a 1300 eg :nice:

X2 and it also allows you to cage it

you cant put a roll cage in cars with sun roofs?

not ones that are made for civics, no. roof line lies too low. would have to be custom. but then the cage IMO would be too near yer face.

Imho a cage in a 1400 would be like putting massive cooling on your stock Intel Celeron.

Fast forward two years though and it might have a b18c and loads of suspension mods etc. Its annoying when you want a cage and cant fit one.

Plus even it if it is still a 1.4, it looks badass.
