Camshafts - which ones to go for?

I wouldn't recommend Brian Crower stage 2's, mapped a 12.0cr b18c recently with these and wasn't all that impressed with how they performed. I know some people have reservations about Skunk2 cams but my experience has only been good with them so I think there worth a look.

Here that's the thing, SO many mixed reviews :nono:

My Mates 98 spec has BC stage 2's, high comp CP pistons etc and jenveys, producing 240bhp / 160lbft using the same tuner i will be using, driven it too and feels great (although not a fan of the throttle feel with jenveys, i'm deffinately not running ITBs on my setup)

Most people knock the skunk2 kit cause of crazy ramp angles overstressing valvetrain, however i have seen some great results from them, mostly stateside

ive heard good reviews from skunk2 but like you said ive heard from alot of people they wear twice as quick as the usual after market cams so in the long run spending more money than the likes of toda

Well todas will wear valvetrain too, the non vtec lobes on spec C's are near enough the same as EK9 cam vtec lobes, haha

For the abuse my car will see and the reliability i'm looking for, a good stage 2 cam will do best, not looking for massive numbers, just think it's stupid building an engine from scratch and spending alot of time and money on it to put a set of standard cams in

success!

out of the companies i was interested in, Endyn has got back fairly quick and they have the Bumpstix in stock! just waiting on a shipping price and will get them ordered :)

You have some good plans there Steven! :) Could you shed more light on what the Bumpstix are like, never heard of them?

Why hasnt anyone mentioned JUN cams? are they not that good?

Sweet, you won't go wrong with Endyn Steven.

JUN make bad ass cams Ramsay. The only problem is they'll be around the same price as Toda's !

Cost Ramsay!

A set of Jun 3's would be awesome, but then again i have heard of multiple sets of these cams breaking..........

Endyn cams seem very well priced too, seems like the hardest thing to buy for an engine build is a decent set of cams, so at least if i have cams then the rest should be failry straight forward

Thats me gone off Skunk2 ones has I was looking at getting these for my build was going for Stage2 turner ones, what are Blueprint stage2 like.

Good post :nice:

My JUN 3 intake cam snapped. I was so pissed off  and no, they would not replace it even you know it was a manufacturing fault.

Apart from that they were a sick set of cams.

What price did they quote?
Are you going to need to make any further changes to the valve train?

They are a very similar cam on paper to a Jun spec 3...........

But yes uprated valvesprings and retainers required, max lift of the intake cam is about 12.3mm

:)

Plan is high comp forged pistons with lightweight forged rods :nice:

The cams should be spot on for what i need, also might have purchased some brand new Toda cam gears i saw going for a good price :nerv:

Yea a kinda thought the price might have been a stumbling block! I remember when your Intake cam snapped, dull one like! :( very bad customer service that they didnt replace it Rich!

Will get your Discs shipped to you tonight Rich and should be with you Monday! :nice:

Yea a thought they might have been pricey! Yea Rich's one snapped and am sure E2saw had a set that snapped. but then again pimpinblackcivic had a set of buddyclub spec 3's snap on him and am sure a guy on here snapped brian crower ones aswell! OEM FTW! lol

Good luck with the engine build mate and keep us updated! you getting Henry to map it again yea?

Steven, Why don't you throw a set of there Roller wave piston in as well. There probably the best set of pistons you can buy. They allow you to run quite a tight piston to wall clearence to so you'll have longer ring life span. :nice:

I probably will be placing another order with them later in the year for pistons and some other bits! The roller wave pistons look amazing

Got to spread the cost though, not in a rush to get it built, was just hoping to get cams sorted out now as some of the decent cams out there are harder to source :nice:

Sounds good to me Steven. They sure make some amazing stuff !

Hard to go wrong with Endyn. Nothing but good comes from them. Let us know how you get along with the new sticks.

Nothing in the Kelford range that looks that great on paper...........

Had contacted Blueprint racing about a set of their stage 2 cams, they look really nice and should have stock in a couple weeks, as much as some todas would be great, at £850+vat i don't think so :wow:

it aint all about whats on paper engine tuners and specialist no how to get the best out of ur engine ur asking for help and advise and others are helping just cos other cams mite not look as good on paper its what ur looking for at the end result maby u should try ring up the tuneing companies and asking a few questions that build proper race engines and ask whats best for what u want

Wasn't trying to shoot down your opinion or anything!

I was comparing the lift and durations of the cams with others on the market which is perfectly good way to get an idea of the how the cam will perform

Phoned up Endyn tonight and paid for the cams, think i have made a good choice having spoken on the phone to them for a bit they are exactly what i was after :nice:

Nice one Steven. Did you have a hard time understanding each others accents ?
